China isn't blessed like US which enjoys flat, fertile lands with 2 coasts on both sides ot its borders, most lands in China are very harsh , barren and inhatibable, China has to make the most them to support 1.4 billion Chinese people, one fifth of the humanity.
Those mountains were formed relatively very new in geological time frame, young geologicial formations are less likely to have fossil energy resources. At the same time, there is a excellent chance that vast natural resources can be discovered under these harsh terrain for obvious reasons.
