Taiwan’s Ex-President: Regards China-Taiwan war: “First war is the same as the final war”

Just want to give a little update on this.

Ex-President Ma Ying-Jeou's speech was absolutely savaged in Taiwan in the last two days. The public opinion in Taiwan was completely against what Ma was trying to say.

I am very surprised that the public opinion in Taiwan had coalesced to the point that in the next three months, it is the best chance (or even the only chance) that Taiwan Independence can occur.

So many of my relatives (who are pro TI) want the war (USA and China) to occur in the next three months. Between Xi Jinping's cowardice (their point of view, not mine) and Donald Trump's idiocy and gambler personality, Taiwan has an once in a lifetime chance to become the fuse to start to a war between the two super powers. Out of which, a new country (Taiwan) will rise like a phoenix.

Feels like I am in a twi-light zone. Can't believe so many Taiwanese are willing to take so much chances.
That is why freedom of media shall be control. I have been to Taiwan. The media is so opened that even brainless propaganda can be flash without consequence. Slander and blant lies can be made. The Taiwanese local are feed with these poison that they lose touch with reality and what rational shall be done.

Same as cases with Hong Kong.

I think is just about distrust to your Government, and how good is American propaganda to demonize CCP.

Actually the Chinese contents of US internet companies are managed by Taiwan people. So they have the illusion.

Latest Taiwanese survey

In the last few days in Taiwan, even though there are major military exercises announcement both by China and USA around Taiwan, there were no run on supermarket, people are still going out for dinner, etc. There is absolutely no sense that things are different in Taiwan.

Even though TV shows are talking about the exercises (by both China and USA) none stop, people are just not really buying it.

The latest survey in Taiwan:

https://www.chinatimes.com/newspapers/20200814000534-260118?chdtv

It is in traditional Chinese and I will provide a brief translation.

The survey is performed by the most pro-Unification newspaper, Chinatimes.

- What is the reason USA support Taiwan?

61.5% of Taiwanese think is to go against China, 14.3% of Taiwanese think is to support Taiwan, 7.8% of Taiwanese think it is to support USA’s national interest, and 16.4% pick others.

- Are you worried that Taiwan will be involved in the contest between China and USA and causes war between China and Taiwan?

41.2% of Taiwanese say yes and 52.2% say no.

- If there is war between China and Taiwan, would USA send troops to support Taiwan?

58.1% of Taiwanese say yes and 30.9% say no.

- If USA and Taiwan establish formal diplomatic relationship, what would China do?

35% of Taiwanese think China will try to forceful re-unification, 29% think China will break diplomatic relationship with USA, 2.7% think the above two simultaneously, 8.8% think nothing will happen, and 2.7% think will be economic sanction.

I think the above survey is pretty good. A lot of Taiwanese (especially pro TIs) feel, with or without war, the next 3 months are the last chance for Taiwan Independence.

Taiwan excluded from RIMPAC war games as US avoids crossing Beijing’s red line

https://www.scmp.com/news/china/mil...-renews-order-pilots-not-fire-first-shot-amid

  • Self-ruled island had been hoping to join the two-week drill that began on Monday as an observer
  • Meanwhile, its air force has told pilots to avoid ‘misfiring’ when sent to repel fighter jets from the mainland
Taiwan has been excluded from the US-led Rim of the Pacific Exercise (RIMPAC) in what analysts see as a sign that Washington is treading carefully to avoid crossing Beijing’s red line on the self-ruled island.

The two-week RIMPAC – the world’s largest international maritime drill held by the US every second year – kicked off on Monday in Honolulu, Hawaii.

Led by the US Navy, it brings together naval forces primarily from the Pacific Rim – this year South Korea, Canada, Australia, Japan, the Philippines, Singapore, New Zealand, Brunei and France – to promote regional stability and cooperation. More than half the 25 countries that took part in the last RIMPAC drill are not participating this year because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Taiwan had been hoping to join the war games, hoping stronger ties with the US would help it to get an invitation to participate as an observer, but it was not forthcoming. Military spokesman Shih Shun-wen confirmed on Monday that the island’s defence ministry had not received an invitation to take part, however he stressed that the “cooperation between Taiwan and the US will benefit regional stability”.

Late last month Shih said Taiwan wanted to take part. “We are interested in participating in RIMPAC as an observer as it would enable us to learn from the cooperative training and humanitarian assistance operations,” he said.

Washington’s decision not to grant Taiwan observer status comes as relations have deteriorated across the Taiwan Strait, and as Beijing, Washington and Taipei seek to calm the tensions. Beijing considers Taiwan to be part of mainland territory, and has not ruled out the use of force to bring the island under its control.

In Taiwan, Beijing-friendly newspaper China Times on Monday reported that the island’s air force had renewed an order for its pilots to avoid “misfiring” when they were dispatched to repel fighter jets from the mainland and other aircraft “intruding” into Taiwan’s airspace.

“Only experienced pilots will be sent to take the lead in any operations monitoring the [intruding] warplanes, to avoid misfiring,” the report said, quoting Taiwanese military sources.

“In order to strictly avoid accidents that may trigger military incidents, pilots have been instructed that they cannot fire the first shot without a direct order from the air force command,” the report said. “Any pilots who violate the order will face legal action [from the military].”

A spokesman for Taiwan’s defence ministry declined to comment on the report.
