Taiwan is non-communist China,historically and they are a different country. The PRC should not invade Taiwan. They went seperate ways and the Taiwanese don't want to join them. Even HK doesn't really want to be part of mainland China.

However in 2016 Tsai ing wen began her rule in Taiwan coincident with Trump beginning his in the US. During COVID the Taiwanese tyrant spread malicious lies about China and even put sanctions on China by refusing to export masks. We don't need those masks but the attitude totally shattered any possibility of peaceful reconciliation.

This is the result of excessive nationalism. Attitudes are hardened. The die is cast. Dialogue is still possible, but it will be from a position of strength.

When few people know one China policy that their government has promised to China but have an impression that Taiwan is different from China, their politicians more likely put forth some anti China policies before and after the war with Taiwan knowing that they will have the support from their people. Of course if you think such policies are good for China, then I have no comments.

No, most of it is in response to provocation. Chinese are some of the least nationalistic people on earth. Taiwanese dictator Chiang Kai Shek even lamented that Chinese people are like a loose heap of sand when he ruled mainland China too.

It doesn't matter. Being the only country of its kind, China's success has already charllenged the fundamentals of the Western world, so it has to fight an uphill battle against all odds, alone, with or without Taiwan issue.
