ANKARA — Top aerospace and aviation manufacturers of Turkey and Indonesia have penned a cooperation agreement that industry experts view as a “long-term strategic” deal.

Turkish Aerospace Industries, or TAI, and PT Dirgantara Indonesia (PTDI) signed the framework agreement at a high-profile ceremony July 6 in the Turkish capital, a press release from TAI said.

TAI described the agreement as a strategic “cooperation deal for the development, production and marketing of aerial vehicles.” The agreement follows a memorandum of understanding signed by the two companies during the International Defence Industry Fair in Istanbul May 9-12, the company said.

“This agreement will create synergy between the two companies while contributing to the development of aviation cooperation between the two countries,” TAI said.

Under the deal, TAI will contribute to the concept development phase of PTDI’s 50-seat N245 aircraft. The two companies will also jointly market PTDI’s N219 aircraft.

“Not only those,” said one senior aerospace industry source. “It seems TAI and PTDI have developed an understanding for a longer-term strategic cooperation that may involve other platforms than the N245 and N219.”

A TAI official said on condition of anonymity that the Turkish and Indonesian governments had their full support for the agreement between the two companies.

“The idea, from the governments’ point of view, is to create a win-win situation in which both countries’ aerospace industries should benefit at a strategic level,” the official said.

TAI, Turkey’s aerospace powerhouse, produces attack helicopters, drones, trainer aircraft and satellites. It also is developing an indigenous Turkish helicopter with utility purposes. TAI is a partner in the multinational Joint Strike Fighter consortium.

Turkish industry has a good experience in CN-235 aircrafts which is converted to Maritime MPA variant. Joint Design/Development/production/marketing of new generation aircraft called N-245 is a perfect idea to meet both civilian and military level requirements of Turkish Republic. Joint-Exporting this aircraft will also bring many advantages to Turkish industry and economy.

Apparently TRJET project died....

I'm watching new interviews of İsmail Demir every month, why nobody asks him the question ?

As far as I remember a MoU for UAV development was signed too during that fair in Istanbul.

TR-Jet died when the government raised the required Turkish input for TR-Jet leaving Sierra Nevada with an unfortunatley impossible task. I saw an article somewhere where someone pointed this out but cant find it anymore.

Terrific news!

Indonesians are perfect cooperation partners if you ask me. They're a fast developing country with a big market. They're reliable and heavily pro-Turkish. Furthermore, Indonesia consists of more than 17,000 islands with over 255 million population. They will order large numbers of anything we're producing together.

The Indonesian state and military has always been very interested in aviation industry. Believe me, this could be the beginning of something big if both countries join their forces.

Turkey + Indonesia = huge market, big potential and what's more important: strong political will to make this cooperation a success on both sides of the table.

N 245 aircraft actually redesigning from N 250, in which had conducted her first flight more than two decades ago . The N 245 will have almost excact dimension with N 250, in which the N 245 will using newer tech, sourcing components and parts from local supplier and cheaper commercially available engines.

It's great to see Turkish interest in this project

BTW as mutual commtment for cooperation, Indonesian sides agree to bought technologies and ask Turkish assistances on Indonesian armed UAV programme

.
Great for both countries, I wish PAF also join them and integrate Project Azm in it.

That article you mention was from 2015. In July 2016 there was news about the guys from TRJet making deals with a Canadian firm for engines. But it's radio silent since October 2016. I do hope the project is still alive but the lack of news is concerning.

Why does N-250 look better than N-245? I can see hands of habibi on n-250 but it seems like he hasn't touched at n-245 or n-219.

N 245 design doesnt come from N 250 but CN 235. I dont know why they use CN 235 as based design rather than N 250. Maybe because CN 235 is a proven design while N 250 is unfinished project and only produce two prototypes. N 250 is also more complicated as it is a fly by ware airplane.

I dont think Habibie has any contribution on N 250 design because he was already a Minister of research since late 80's until mid 90s before he become Vice President. PT Dirgantara designers have already got valuable design experience when they design CN 235 with Casa designers so I dont think they still need Habibie for N 250 project.

Habibie actually hate N 219 program since he thinks it is a step back after N 250 and N2130 project. N 219 itself is an important project according to PT Dirgantara officials because they think despite it is a small and simple aircraft, this project is used to teach young engineers on how to design a plane. Most engineers who design N 219 dont have any design experience, they are lead by seniors engineers who most of them probably have retired now. For your information, after IMF stopped N 250 and N 2130 project, many PT Dirgantara engineers left the companies and work in Boeing and Airbus. Some are called back particularly for KFX project. This is why most PT Dirgantara designers now are young.

Habibie still has a dream in aerospace and he made an aerospace company (RAI) with his son Ilham Habibie and hoping to challenge ATR 72 aircraft with R 80 project. R 80 project also use some previous PT Dirgantara designers who work in Boeing and Ilham itself is a former PT dirgantara engineers who previously become N 2130 (jet passenger plane) project manager. It is R 80 whose design is closer to N 250 than N 245. R 80 is also a fly by ware airplane.

It is N 245 picture posted by PT Dirgantara previous website (N 245 program is erased on the recent website though, dont know why, maybe because the prototype hasnt been made yet), you can see that the design look like CN 235

Why not just making a proper thread about all these within asian section? There is enough content to handle one i guess.

is our TAI really participate in this project?
