Cost- T-72B3 ($2-$3 million)
Weight-T-72B3 (45t)
Maneuverability/Range- T-72B3 .
Armor Protection-M1A2
Armor Protection including laser warning and APS- T72-B3
Firepower
APFSDS
- M1A2 (M829A4)
Multi Purpose Ammo- M1A2 (M830A1)
High Explosive- T-72B3 (30F26)
Guided Missile- T-72B3 (9M119 Svir)
Sensors & Targeting Systems- Tie

looks like the T-72B3 wins

T-72B3 6/10
M1A2 3/10
Tie 1/10

but then I ask you...poll

Abrams..

But than again it would also depend on other factors.

For example -- Abrams would be a white elephant - for use in indo Pak theater..

Reasons;

Bridges,rail,infrastructure can't support a heavy tank.

Extensive canal/irrigation system of Pakistan.

Topography etc..

But one on one on neutral ground.. If chose Abrams over a tricked out T-72 any day!

I doubt T-72B3 would cost 3 mil.

more or less?

The poll should have included Leopard2 as well as the Leclerc.

T-72B3 is not a new tank -- but an upgrade.

Basically to its FCS & Sights .. And K5 ERA.

Mostly done to old T-72Bs by the Russians.

According to most sources it hardly costs 1-1.5 million.

It's pretty stupid to compare an old upgraded T-72 to a brand new Abrams.

At 4 million -- you can get MBT-2000 (export/watered down AK).

I meant brand new build T-72B3

but a highly modernized T-72 isn't stupid to compare to an Abrams

both have their pros and cons.

T-72s aren't in production anymore...

It is... T-90 is the most "upgraded" variant of the T-72...

It would make sense if you compared tanks like T-90 or AKI to Abrams rather than a T-72.

P.S; A trained crew in a T-72 does have a chance against an Abrams (with a "less" trained crew).

That is really cheap...!?!

it really doesn't matter. I wanted to compare the greatest T-72 variant.

and I was going to add crew comfort which the M1A2 wins or any Western tank and the modern Chinese versions.

and crew training is the number 1 factor.

but as evident by the Sauds getting BTFO by the Houthis in their M1A1 albiet downgraded shows crew training and situational awareness is the most important thing.

That's for the upgrade -- I presume.

The greatest T-72 variant is the T-90 (which is an upgraded T-72).

AK is based on a Chinese tank.. But it is bigger and heavier than the T-90.

True.

Are you comparing these two guys? Just have a look at their basic forms. Are they even worth comparing???

Every time T72 messed with Abraham, this was result. No matter what the variant, T72 is not a Hunter but a prey........ always

Unfair to compare M1A2 with T-72. T-72 is tank from the 1970's whereas M1A2 came to production in the 1990's. T-72 was never improved greatly whereas the Abrams went through a lot of it. It's basically a different tank.

Comparison should be between the T-72 and M1 tanks.

Besides tank armour can't offer protection against modern ATGMs or RPGs such as RPG-27 or RPG-29.

Comparing T-72 with M1A2??Seriously??M1A2 is like best tank for over 2 decades.T-72 came nearly 1 decade before M1A2 and weighs 2/3 of Abrams.Abrams will smash anything upto 4 km if given. But T-72 is poor man's MBT and has some tangible advantages over Abrams.

But I'd love to highlight that please don't bring Iraq war to advertise Abrams.Iraq had downgraded T-72s and not enough Armour piercing rounds.
