My heart goes to the people of Syria. We pray for them every day in our prayers so that they would get rid of this sadistic government.

We wish we could do more but there is nothing that we can do. But the fact that the syrian regime is now using this tactic shows how insecure it feels and how the rebels are coming very close to bring him to the gallops.

Being an Arab country, can't you guys intervene? I mean you are easily the dominant Arab military state. If you intervene, I don't think Syrians would mind so seriously. At least it would be better before someone starts thinking about bringing democracy in their style .

No major power wants to intervene in Syria because it has every chance to become next Iraq or Lebanon, with country divided among sectarian lines and killing eachother.

Arab states have a treaty of never holding a gun against one another. Saddam broke this treaty and he got what he deserved. We never dishonor our treaties.
And now we are trying to normalize relationship with Iran how do you think they will take this news?? I believe in the syrian people. They will show Bashar not to miss with the sons of the Ummayid Empire.

The reason why nobody wants to directly interfere in Syria is because it's too dangerous. And with the current state of the global economy, nothing seems likely.

Seriously though he is going to be harder to get rid of now, with Mubarak facing the death penalty Bashar probably feels there is nothing to loose by slaughtering his own people. If he steps down he is probably a dead man so while he still has support from Iran Russia and Lebanon he will shoot any one that protests and starve those that dont.

Russia is building a naval base in Syria that over looks the Mediterranean .
