Hatay and the surrounding region always had majority Turkish population that's why they decided to separate from Syria and declare their own independent Hatay Turkish Republic...One year later they joined Turkey with a consensus.

These fake borders were drawn by the imperialists anyway so if the Syrians are keen on war with Turkey they should prepare themselves for "Kuvai-Milliye" borders which is how Turkey was supposed to look like in reality.

Baath never gave up on Hatay even in pre-war era where the relations started to warm up.
Hatay is one of the reasons why Syria gave birth to pkk in the first place, Bashars ancestors always seeked confrontation with Turkey over this issue.
