What's new

Sweden's population reaches historic ten million milestone

The quality of life is very good in these countries, but life is also very expensive + the high amount of taxes they have to pay.

Mind you, many are happy to pay them seeing the quality of their public services and how the state takes care of every citizens.
fair enough do they have a nhs equivalent?

Not at all

My opinion is consistent about Norway. I have had funny incidents when I visited Norway for the first time as I was quite young back then and hadn't travelled anywhere in Europe. That was my first ever visit outside Pakistan, UK and Saudi Arabia so had to face some trouble due to overestimating the value of Norwegian krone and ended up in miss until the cash machine allowed me to withdraw money from my UK account. The people in Norway were so helpful that I can't thank them enough
is it because you relatives there?

Yes, sort of. Our healthcare system is regional, not national and is spread out into four districts. Anyone under 16 gets free care, but adults (over 16 in Norway) pay a deductible each year for an exemption card with allows the person free healthcare for the year and must be renewed annually.

Norway's healthcare system is ranked 13th internationally, 3rd in Europe, but is known for its long waiting periods, so unless your care is urgent, take a seat and wait your turn.

Out of all scandinavian countries, Norway is by far the best. The best country in the world in my biased opinion

When You pay for a Pizza in Norway, and they charge You $25-30, you change Your mind

Rich country, high prices. It happens. Our per capital income is nearly 21,000 USD higher then is Sweden's. Add taxes and social services into the mix, and prices are damn expensive, but our wages match. I make roughly 300,000 USD as a control engineer, so I can't say expensive pizza is really much of a bother to me.

Oh but don't worry, we're a friendly people who like to help the poor:D.

$
i was told (by Fenrir ) petrol is $9 per litre, over here petrol is about £1.20 from (BP)

Yup, it's costly. Most of Norway's oil is exported and the money invested in renewable energy, not used domestically. Our government treats social services like a social experiment too, often using tax revenue to benefit the country - its people, environment, business and so on. It disincentivizes fossil fuel powered transit and promotes electric or hybrid propulsion by making oil so expensive by slapping massive taxes on it.

I can't really complain about petrol prices though, since I drive this:partay::

Our Navy and Coast Guard run almost exclusively on natural gas now, but have dual gas-oil propulsion systems. The government's taken a lot of steps to limit petrol use and promote cleaner forms of energy.

how would you compare it to the nhs? and do you have any thing like A&E (accidents & emergencies)
our a&e usually have long waiting time of about 2-4 hours
do you have a gp? (general practitioner) who you can see on appointment.

over here we have differant type of hopspitals we have our large hospitals for births surgerys and other major stuff, (broken leg, cancer etc....) and with in the large hospital we have a&e.

and we have our gp who takes care of the trivial stuff. some times smaller gp's merge into one large health centre which specails in quiet a few things. and also have something like a&e but its called treatment room. a good example is Barbara castle way: http://www.barbaracastlehealthcentre.co.uk/

NHS is so good that your citizens go en masse to our northern hospitals. :D More and more are becoming 'NHS compatible' to welcome all the British citizens that need care. You help us generating revenue and fill up our hospitals' chambers where many remain empty, like in the new Calais hospital for exemple where 20% remain generally empty.

300k in dollar amount?!?

Engineers here in US don't make even half of that!!!

What the hell Norway? I thought US has the highest wages?

.
most likely more cuts, if she kills the nhs then she will kill the political career

Apparently she's coming here to criticize President Trump over his planning repeals of ACA rules, NATO, & Syria when you guys cant even plan your own budget.

Not anymore, unfortunately. Even though our economy as a whole has done quite well these past few decades, almost all the income gains in this country have gone to the very top. I can only imagine what middle and upper middle class households would be making if that wasn't so.
