A suicide bomber has detonated his explosives at a Shia mosque in eastern Saudi Arabia during Friday prayers, killing and wounding several people, residents said.

One witness described a huge explosion at the Imam Ali mosque in a village in the province of Qatif, where more than 150 people were praying.

A source told the Reuters news agency that there were at least 30 casualties estimated in the attack.

The Saudi state news agency confirmed an explosion had occurred at a mosque and said more details would be provided later.

DUBAI: A suicide bomber blew himself up at a Shia mosque in eastern Saudi Arabia during Friday prayers, residents said, killing and wounding several people.
One witness described a huge explosion at the Imam Ali mosque in the village of al-Qadeeh. He estimated there were at least 30 casualties in the attack, where more than 150 people were praying.

“We were doing the first part of the prayers when we heard the blast,” Kamal Jaafar Hassan, one worshipper, told Reuters by telephone from the scene.

The Saudi state news agency confirmed an explosion had occurred at a mosque in eastern Saudi Arabia and said more details would be provided later.

Pictures posted on social media showed bloodied victims being taken away on stretchers.

yes even KSA is not immune. back in early to mid 2000 thee were some bomb attacks on the Kingdom but hats of the security forces of KSA they were proactive to sought out the future plotters and eliminated them before they could make it a usual occasion like in Pakistan, Afghanistan or Iraq.
there have been only handful terrorist attempts on KSA. the shia community will look towards the kingdom for help in this time and if the kingdom catches and punishes the culprits that it will strengthen its bond with the people.
