Su-57 Program Cancelled

I'm sure it can easily get buyers from Middle East, Asia, and South America for the SU-57.
if the Indians are not "buying it", who is going to?

the mid east and asia fly western jets lately, so does south America.

india is the major if not the sole buyer of Russian jet lately, if india does not believe this jet is VLO enough, the Russian will have a terrible time convincing the rest that the EXPORT version of the su57 (which saw combat against the f22 in Syria) is anything even close to VLO.

So F-35 is 4 gen fighter?

F-35 is 5th generation strike fighter. Su-34 is 4++ generation strike fighter. They are strike fighters, not multi role fighters. F-35 is JSF Joint Strike Fighter.

Russia air force buys Su-57 like America air force bought F-22. They are not for export.

Lol at chest thumping article ,a nation of dare devil designers who put first Array radar in jets and still SU in flight performance gives run for money what ever is thrown at it cant believe the authenticity of content ,How ever considering week economy any thing is possible ,it will be delayed as China and Russia both learn that you cant have 5th Gen fighters rolling out like 4th Gen

Dude, do you have a clue what you are talking about?

This "nation" no longer exists. Soviet Union that had twice the population and spent 12-14% of GDP on defence had far more resources than Russia has.

The sorry saga of the SU-57 has revealed that Russia just cannot compete with US/China when it comes to cutting-edge fighter aircraft technology.

"Su-57 is not the same class as F-35. F-35 is Joint Strike Fighter strike fighter, same class as Su-34 and F-15E, not built for low RCS, not built for speed, not built for agility. Su-57 is multi role same class as F-22, built for low RCS, high speed, high agility."

Complete bullshit btw

Soviet Union had lots of people, but its technology was done by ethnic Russians. The Russia space center was in Moscow. Ethnic Russians sent the first satellite into orbit, built the first space suit, sent the first man into orbit, did the first space walk, sent the first lander to another planet, sent the first remote controlled rover to the moon, built the first space station, built the first modular space station. All of Soviet Union's aerospace was done by ethnic Russians. Sukhoi, Mikoyan, Tupolev, Illyushin, Mil, Kamov are all in Russia.

India has 1 billion people and India can't build a jet engine. Population ain't that important.

LOLz China buys Su-35S from Russia. Su-35S is the world's first fighter jet that has 3D thrust vectoring engines. Not even Americans can make engines this advanced.

I know what Im writing and I wrote based on facts ,Now you believe just because UAE shows interest in Sukhoi platforms makes it inferior ? remmember world business works on perception and in perception Russian systems are considered outdated which are not as Western sets very high standards for there equipment because of very high man power cost where as Russian philosophy is build more ,rugged and yes with flaws ,So what you refer above means that Russia has surrender against US (even if they dont have fully capable jet no country will say such things ) the philosophy of F22/F35 Vs SU 57 and J20 is very different both Eastern parts never claims full stealth it is more of crippling US system with heavy payloads and more range whereas US philosophy is one variable compatibility for whole system ,So things cant be seen in one article alone ,If SU57 can take out tankers plus Awacs the F35 is sitting duck so be creative and think where your strengths are Head on F22 will give run for money to any platform and there neither Ruskies nor Chinese are competing

RUSSIA sent its secret new stealth fighter prototypes to Syria to see how they performed. Now, the whole project has just been dumped.

MOSCOW boasted it had a new world-beater: The Su-57 stealth fighter. It was smart. It was sneaky. It was lethal. Turns out, it’s none of those things.

It’s been a long, expensive road.

But the gamble Russia took in developing its first stealth fighter has failed.

It promised much: the ability to sneak up on opposing bombers and fighters unseen, to see them first, to shoot first …

Then reality hit home.

Engine troubles. Questionable stealth. The abandonment of the project by partner India. A credit crunch thanks to international sanctions over Russia’s invasion of Crimea.

THE Su-57: What we know about Russia’s most modern stealth fighter

Now, the combat jet touted as being able to take on — and beat — the US F-22 ‘Raptor’ stealth fighter and F-35 ‘Lightining II’ strike fighter has been unceremoniously dumped.

Some 11 examples have been built over the past 10 years. Each taking the integration of advanced stealth, electronics, engine and integration technologies one step further.

“The plane has proven to be very good, including in Syria, where it confirmed its performance and combat capabilities,” Russian Deputy Defence Minister Yuri Borisov said on Russian TV.

In the end, it wasn’t good enough.

Not that Moscow can admit that.

RELATED: Here’s the US vision of future air warfare

“The Su-57 is considered to be one of the best aircraft produced in the world. Consequently, it does not make sense to speed up work on mass-producing the fifth-generation aircraft.”

So the prototypes are a dead end. There will be no mass-produced Su-57.

Instead, advances made and applied to the new airframe will likely be partially grafted on older aircraft, such as the Su-35.

Western analysts have long cast doubt over the Su-57’s true ‘fifth generation’ stealth fighter status.

It was big. It could carry an impressive array of anti-air and anti-ground weapons. It was also super-manoeuvrable.

RELATED: China wants to replace its Russian aircraft carrier fighters

But does not appear to have succeeded at combining these attributes with being stealthy. And the ability of its engines to sustain high speeds for long periods of time was in doubt.

President Putin at first promised several squadrons of the advanced fighter would be operational in the 2020s. Then the order was cut back to a few dozen production models.

Now, there will be none.

THE J-20: What we know about China’s most modern stealth fighter

This leaves Russia at a considerable disadvantage to US, NATO and other Western-allied nations now fielding the F-35 stealth fighter. And China late last year declared its first stealth fighter — the J-20 — to be in operational squadron service.

How Moscow will manage this setback is yet to be seen.

Russia air force ordered 100 Su-35S 4++ gen fighters, currently 70 something in service in Russia air force. It is likely less than 100 Su-57 would be built, meaning no mass production like MiG-21 which had thousands built.

Modern planes are so expensive. France only has about 60 Rafales. Germany only has about 60 Typhoons. Italy only has about 60 Typhoons. Britain only has about 60 Typhoons. Spain only has about 60 Typhoons. America only has about 180 F-22. America has 300 million people. Russia only has 150 million people. Russia probably only getting about 90 Su-57.

Super powers don't fight each other anymore. America has election once a year or so. War kills election chances. Su-35S is more than sufficient. Su-35S first flew in 2008, entered service in 2014. Su-57 first flew in 2010. Enter service next year.

Grossly misleading title...Su57 was a stealthy A/C and not a "stealth killer"

Su-35S = Super Hornet. Super Hornet first flew 1995. Su-35S first flew 2008. Su-57 = F-22. F-22 first flew 1997. Su-57 first flew 2010.

Russia is cancelling the Su-57 (aka T-50) stealth fighter. They built 11 planes in early production but India has dropped out as a partner. Russia will apply the stealth technology and other advancements for an improved version of the SU-35.

Russia flew the plane in Syria but it had engine troubles and the stealth is inferior.

Most of the first five prototypes developed severe structural problems, engine breakdowns and cockpit glazing problems. India had agreed to co-finance the T-50, but dropped out because the T-50’s engines were unreliable, inadequate radar and badly engineered stealth.

The SU-37 had significant problems flying and releasing bombs at supersonic speeds.
