I'm against German participation in any war anywhere. I'm against Europe being under US command in the NATO. We are a trading nation and we should concentrate in making friends through trade. Regarding reverse engineering, I have stated numerous times, that developing should have free access to knowhow and knowledge. Germany has been doing fine because we have been able to be a step ahead of anyone who tried to copy us.

Mr. Krishna had, during his visit to the country in November 2010, launched the construction work for the Northern Railway project. “We expect all the projects relating to rehabilitation of the Northern Railway line by IRCON, being funded under an Indian credit line of $800 million, to be completed by the end of 2013,” he said.

He announced a substantial increase in India's assistance in the education sector, amounting to a grant of Sri Lankan Rs.2.5 billion, to aid meritorious students.

Under this programme, scholarships and self-financing slots for undergraduate, masters and doctorate-level courses will be increased to nearly 270 per year. This marks a three-fold increase, and includes 120 slots for undergraduate courses, 25 seats for IT engineering, 50 slots for Masters-level courses, and 40 slots for a highly-subsidised self-financing scheme.

In addition, support for deserving students pursuing their GCE ‘A' level and University degrees in Sri Lankan institutions has been expanded to cover about 500 students every year.

Foreign Minister S M Krishna will hand over the first set of 50,000 houses and 10,000 bicycles to Tamils displaced by war and inaugurate a railway link between Galle and Colombo that has been repaired with India’s help as he starts his four-day tour of Sri Lanka Monday.

Krishna is also expected to announce Rs 1,300 crore for building more houses in northern part of the nation, which bore the brunt of the war against the LTTE. Krishna will review progress of an India-assisted project for building 50,000 houses for the war-displaced people.

The two nations are likely to sign at least four agreements in the areas of housing, railways, agriculture and telecom. The issue of fishermen straying into each other’s waters will also be discussed.

Krishna, in his discussions with counterpart G L Peiris and President Mahinda Rajapaksa, is expected to stress on the need for “genuine national reconciliation” and devolution of authority to find a lasting solution to the decades-old ethnic conflict in Sri Lanka.

During his visit, Krishna will visit Jaffna, Kilinochchi, Galle and the Indian Peacekeeping Force Memorial located outside Colombo.

He will also meet representatives of the Tamil National Alliance to discuss the progress in their talks with Colombo over the proposed devolution of powers.

Still not completed projects! There aren't any major projects done by Indians in Sri Lanka. most of our projects goes to China, Japan, UK, Malaysia. Only mega project SL has given to India is our second coal power project, but still haven't started it yet.

We are supporting for China coz they have done something, Indians are only talking but very few things they have done. Sri Lanka`s New `High-speed` Track a Total Failure: Railway Union Says

The refurbished Galle-Matara railway line, which claimed to be capable of 100 KmpH speed, was opened on Thursday (16) by Transport Minister. However according to union, the first train as well as test train recorded only 80 KmpH even without passengers, union said.

`Both Ruhunu Kumari and Galu Kumari trains recorded the normal speed on new track.` Union said claiming this as another failed project of government.

Meanwhile People`s Lubrication Front (JVP) parliamentarian in a press conference said that the new track could only speed up trains by 6 minutes with a cost of 3600 million Rupees.

The track which was devastated by the 2004 Asian tsunami was re-done with a 3600 million Rupees Indian loan.
