Sri Lanka union blames Chinese firm for power plant failure

Private players should take risks (.. in the hope they will get rewarded for the risks taken).

Govt should keep out of business ... that's a good policy.

Let's see if ADAG can succeed in producing cheap power .... if he can extract the lowest price and reliable quality, from any supplier in the world. If he makes a mistake .... only ADAG pays for it. If he does it right, he makes a lot of money.

And competitive pressure will only bring the better out of BHEL and L&T .... especially, if chinese equipments do work out to be cheaper, over the lifetime.

But is Govt really out of business in India..we have so many PSUs and most of them like Air India are white elephants. Yes I agree that Govt should act as a facilitator and not businessman, but one has to look also the size and reach of the private player under question. If GoUS thought the same way as you suggested, they would have never bailed out GM.

If you pay peanuts, you get monkeys.Chinese power turbines are cheap but and quality is compromised.even indian companies went for chinese turbines which ignoring BHEL now they are facing same problems as srilanka is facing ie frequent breakdowns.

If people can pay high price they would certainly not go for India products ... hello! :cheesy: There is Siemens and Kawasaki!

Don't laugh guys, I know most of states in India don't have 24x7 power supply. :D
Trouble in this coal power plant doesn't effect our 24x7 power supply. Nothing to worry too much there is a new hydro power plant, it will start to produce electricity with in few weeks.

The matter with this Chinese power plant is this Chinese company wanted to operate it for some years, but SL electricity board wanted to operate it themselves. This is the issue at the moment, if it failed again and again, Operations will go to that Chinese company. Money goes to China. ;)

Fist have the same level of industrialization that India has and then boast about your 24 x 7 power supply.

What would be reaction if it happened with indian company? All pakistani, bangladeshi, sri lankan would be bashing India as they normally do. Since it is chinese company, they are defending china or not replying.

As someone said in this forum.
Woh karay toh chamatkar. Hum karay toh balatkar

What's a silly question, if it fails to operate then more money will waste, main thing we must do is keep running the plant. This project isn't completed yet so this may disadvantage to us at this moment. We need to have plant running, also we need Chinese to complete the whole project. SL will take correct decision don't worry!

Industralization and power deficit go hand in hand in any developing country, at least thats what I see. In my state Kerala there is no big heavy industries to speak of and as a result of this we have 24 x 7 powersupply except for the summer months when there is some load shedding but for no more than 30 minutes. On the otherhand neighbouring TN which has many heavy industries, there is a 2 hour load shedding everyday.
