Sri Lanka Navy Rescue Indian fallen overboard merchant ship

Sri Lanka Naval Vessels P 411 and P 483 attached to the Eastern Naval Command assisted in the rescue of an Indian national, who had fallen overboard on a location in the SAR region under purview of Sri Lanka, on 04th March 2012. He was brought to the Naval Hospital in Trincomalee and subsequently, transferred to the Trincomalee Government Hospital for further treatment.

The rescued is a crew member of a Singapore-flagged merchant ship, MV Prabhu Daya, which had been en route from Goa to Chennai. The incident was reported by Maritime Rescue Coordination Center Mumbai (India) and accordingly, SLN launched a Search and Rescue operation with a view to assist the rescue of the crew member.

SLN carried out emergency medical treatment for multiple inpecctions of chest, eye and ear as well as dehydration prior to his transfer ashore.

Why not rescued by Indian navy?

The rescued is a crew member of a Singapore-flagged merchant ship, MV Prabhu Daya, which had been en route from Goa to Chennai. The incident was reported by Maritime Rescue Coordination Center Mumbai (India) and accordingly, SLN launched a Search and Rescue operation with a view to assist the rescue of the crew member.

Whoever is the closest to the site of the incident. Obviously time is of essence in a rescue mission. Thanks SL Navy.
