Well, whatever... the point is that is fulfills PAF's requirement and we have made good profit out of it so far.

JF-17 has been completed but it not developed... next version will unlock a much bigger market due to new capabilities

Sri Lanka Strictly follows the policies of Non-Aligned Movement.

Stability & Peaceful Environment in Indian Ocean is the interest of every Asian country.

If one country trying to block another country in Indian Ocean then the problem begins.

And this is the plan of China... It wants to control the naval flow ...
India is one the first country to form this movement and till date it follows this by not supporting any wars...

China on the other hand is dominating the Oceanic flow..It will surely involve in sniffing activities and will cross check goods transportation between many eastern and western countries and will not guarantee the delivery of goods... Further china is yet to solve the dispute in it south china sea with many countries... so how can that country can provide guarantee on peace lane... Especially on Indian-Ocean which is the life line of East, west and European countries...

I had no intention of writing flame baits. I simply asked a legitimate question as to the reasoning behind the procurement of these fighter jets; no one has offered a thorough explanation of that yet.

A country does not need to have advanced fighter jets just for the sake of having advanced fighter jets. There are many countries that do not, who are in far more perilous situations than Sri Lanka.

Simply Indian Ocean does not belong to either russia/india/us, as much as you you people can take advantage of it so can and will China and Sri Lanka.

did you guys think that the LCA squadron or even an MKI squadron may have been placed in the southern reaches to as to be as far away from incoming missiles (and thus have more time to react) as possible?

SL getting fighter aircraft is solely SL s issue. What threat perceptions it has is none of any countries business. Having said that, if SL wants to get a squadron of jf17 to counter the LCAs that India has allegedly fielded in southern India, then thats a bit funny. Do you think if India has to fight SL (I dont EVER see that happening), then will it use ONLY LCA?

then may be SL should buy a counter to MKI - a couple of f16 s maybe. and also needs a strong navy to counter the 2 ACs.. a few tens of submarines. and oh - how to counter the million strong army of India? well, you might have to draft every one into the army - even the Tamils!

conclusion: SL should and can get her own war machines - please do not start a rhetoric that it is to counter India. SL NEED NOT counter India.

For example SLAF increasing its Air Defense & Maritime Surveillance Capabilities.

Sri Lanka Armed Forces Modernization & Expansion will continue

Even expect year to year Defense Spending increase

Still the long term Procurements not reveled (2011 – 2020)

Regarding Finance it’s not a big deal for us -
My personal view: For example if SLAF trying to add 12 MIG-29 SMT jets year to year with in next ten years. Then by 2020......

Russia maintains 150 MIG-29 jets in its reserves. (Not used by Russian Air force)

Every year China provides Sri Lanka with US$ 1 Billion Aid as Economic Support.
Also China provides Sri Lanka with US$ undisclosed amount Aid as Military Support.
