CHINA & SRI LANKA AGREE TO DEEPEN MILITARY TIES

China & Sri Lanka today agreed to deepen their burgeoning defence ties as the powerful visiting Lankan Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa held a crucial meeting with a top Chinese military commander in China.

The Chinese offer to enhance defence ties with Sri Lanka came during a key meeting between Defence Secretary Rajapaksa and Chen Bingde, the Chief of General Staff of Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA).

China was willing to work with Sri Lanka to further enhance friendly exchanges and cooperation between the two nations and armed forces, to promote their comprehensive and cooperative partnership, Chen said.

There has been continuous consolidation and development of China-Sri Lanka relations in recent years, state-run Chinese news agency Xinhua quoted Chen as saying today.

He said Beijing appreciated Sri Lanka’s firm support on the issues of Taiwan and Tibet, which were related to China’s core interests.

Rajapaksa, the brother of President Mahenda Rajapaksa, said the government and armed forces of Sri Lanka appreciated China’s support and would continue to advance friendly and cooperative relations between the two nations and two armed forces.

Rajapaksa’s visit, following last month’s tour of Sri Lankan Foreign Minister G.L Peiris, is seen as significant. China, which has emerged as Sri Lanka’s biggest donor last year with a billion dollar aid replacing Japan, is also one of biggest supplier of weapons to Sri Lanka army.

Be constructive in your argument and be logical. You previous post was as if some 15 year old is writing it senseless.
Simply Indian Ocean does not belong to either russia/india/us, as much as you you people can take advantage of it so can and will China and Sri Lanka.

Try not getting personal and act civilized on defense forum we don't need uncivilized goons on in here.

By the way Chinese plan to encircle endia is doing too good.

PS. As if you know about Seas and Oceans lol sea weedie, Ask me about Sea I shall answer you whether I know it or not we'll see then ok?

Yes not only Chinese Plans but its has been effectively been swiftly implement executed and Objectives to dominate will be achieved.

Don't bother replying my post I'm putting you on Ignore, won't be reading your posts.

Suggest you come back to the thread Topic before you are kicked off the Forum.

If my post is childish then i will improve my writing skills... thanks for pointing it.. And when did i say International waters belong to one country??.. The point i am trying to stress is China does unbalanced trade .. So when a country practices unbalanced trade and increasing the trade deficit of other country what is the guarantee it will provide Free trade in international waters?? It will not allow this because it will try to capitalize on huge goods movement by denying routes or will sabotage trade links with any country...

Here we are not discussing on china encircling India... We are discussing on Sri lanka Aircraft procurement .. and i was merely responding to Srilankan who said Strong Srilankan Force helping China.. which is a wrong way of using one's Airforce for others benefit and no other country will keep quite if they do involve in such activities which was my Point of View

Haa even if you take these simple discussion on serious note it shows your level of maturity ...
Any one who can analyze what i have written understands my point.. And i am least worried what you think about me..

If you want to Ban me for expressing my views on Logical argument that is fine.. I am happy to be out.. I haven't done any crime or personal attack..If i do i will ask sorry to the people directly and i have no ego problem or what so ever..

.
I think u dont understand English..

I asked , was any military aid from China used in procurement of fighter aircrafts..

Read it slowly and carefully.. Its not that tough..

I said yes, Now for many years we are using Chinese Military Aid & Support.

.
It is understandable if the common Lankans have a pro-china-Pak attitude...
it ws majorly China and Pakistan that provided them with offensive weapons...
We otoh provided them with radars and telecomm equipment...which don't sound that cool I guess...
We have a miniscule role in Sri Lanka's development...if procuring arms is the only way to go about it...

Tue, Nov 2, 2010, 05:06 am SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.
Nov 02, Colombo: Government of India is supplying 500 four-wheel tractors to Sri Lanka under a grant to promote agriculture in the Northern Province.

High Commissioner of India in Colombo, Ashok K. Kantha ceremoniously handed over 52 of the 500 four-wheel tractors to Sri Lanka's Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa at the Galle Face Green yesterday, a press release from the Indian High Commission said.

All the tractors are completely equipped with all the farm implements, namely, 9 Tine Tiller, Rotovator, two-furrow Disc Plough, and cage wheel. The total cost of the project is 600 million Sri Lankan rupees.

Minister of Industry and Commerce Rishad Bathiyudeen, Minister of Traditional Industries and Small Enterprises Development Douglas Devananda, and Governor of Northern Province Major General (Retd.) G. A. Chandrasiri attended the ceremony.
Speaking during the ceremony, the High Commissioner said that since the end of the armed conflict in Sri Lanka in May 2009, the Indian government has intensified its development assistance, with time, shifting the emphasis to rehabilitation and implementing number of development projects.

Kantha said the agriculture is a focus area of the India's assistance programme and the Indian government plans to assist in setting up an Agriculture Research Training Centre and Agriculture Faculty in the Northern Province.

All Posters, Please refrain from posting flaming posts, If you cant post something relevant, then do not waste bandwidth and your energy. We will strictly keep it to srilankan weapons procurements. I hope we ll keep this thread highly relevant and clean. With regards to Mig-29 SMT, the most likely source IMHO will be Russian loan, The Chinese assistance/loan will likely be spent on sourcing weapons of Chinese origen. Paritosh, you have a very valid point but the problem is that uptill now Indian defence Industries have not made their mark considerably outside India. But personally I think that the first "do" from Indian policy prospective should be confidence building measures cuz without them all the economic assistance wont do much.

Mig-29 and JF-17 both aircrafts are good for SLAF after getting rid of Indian funded LTTE Srilankan economy will definitely improve and they can increase the number of fighter jets in their fleet best of luck.

.
The SL dude has a point you know. SMTs are air superiority fighters. SL barely faces any air to air threat while any rogue organization has to enter the country only via land. So getting of a prime air superiority fighter would do no good for SLAF. MiG-29s have extremely limited or almost nil air to ground role due to their requirements of role.

Hence they'd need something that can strike the ground more than fight air to air. In such a situation considering that SL budget is very small, FC-1 seems a reasonable option. Tejas will join IAF only in January and the production lines are still to be expanded so we cannot even offer them that.

In such a scenario, a mix of FC-1 and Super Tucano prop attackers will be best option for SLAF. MiG-29s will be an overkill.

with all the blue waters navy...and not to mention an AC Carrier..still placing a squadron of LCAs to strengthen security......gimme a better reason plz
iaf's most bases are in west, north east India as Benny said.IN is blue water navy but navy should be accompanied by AF too because air cover helps much.this lcas will do that job.

LTTE got defunct because all the countries supported SL genuinely in the region. LTTE is gone because of efforts from all the three countries in the area: Pakistan, India & China. It was declared a terrorist outfit after it killed our PM and started creating recruitment pockets in Indian territory, which is not acceptable to government.

Stop this dead propaganda just because you're getting limelight. If you don't know, Mahinda Rajapakse thanked the GOI as well for their support.

that's why I specifically mentioned Aircraft Carrier (AC Carrier in previous post). And secondly, air cover to naval units is mostly accomplished by having corvettes having SAM capabilities. Airforce was used in times the SAM technology was underdeveloped. With Long range SAMs coming up Navy is usually free from AF.

i think sri lanka can lease its air to india and gain more in economic development
