Sri Lanka embarks on fighter aircraft procurement

You mean to say Sri Lanka will support China in conquering Indian Ocean and create problem for all the country??.. Do you think US/ Russia will sit Quite?.. for get US/Russia we wont sit quite if that happens... Take it from me.. We will diplomatically work down a solution on this with you... When such a situation happens..

Sri Lanka Strictly follows the policies of Non-Aligned Movement.

Stability & Peaceful Environment in Indian Ocean is the interest of every Asian country.

If one country trying to block another country in Indian Ocean then the problem begins.

Pakistan president to visit Sri Lanka

Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari will visit Sri Lanka next month in a bid to boost trade and security cooperation, an official said Sunday.

Zardari will be accompanied by foreign minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi and a group of Pakistani businessmen, a foreign ministry official said.

"The two days of meetings will centre around security and trade cooperation between both countries," the official said.

Pakistan is a key supplier of arms to Sri Lanka and also offers training to Sri Lankan security personnel.

Multi role ?? how??

Not a single country till now show interest in jf17 ...
Not even China (maker)

JF17 still not mature it need up-gradation and i think mk2 version will we be great choice for small countries

Multi role ?? how??

Wiki:

The JF-17 was developed primarily to meet the requirements of the Pakistan Air Force for a low-cost, medium-technology, multi-role combat aircraft as a cost-effective replacement for its ageing mixed fleet of Nanchang A-5, Chengdu F-7P/PG and Dassault Mirage III/V fighters

Not a single country till now show interest in jf17 ...
Not even China (maker)

That is a baseless claim...

http://www.defence.pk/forums/jf-17-thunder/71364-jf-17-thunder-exports-estimated-5-billion-2.html

(it's 500 million, the title is wrong- but half a billion is still huge exports)

JF17 still not mature it need up-gradation and i think mk2 version will we be great choice for small countries

The next block is being developed as we speak and and a stealth fighter is lined up. I assume it would be a solid 4-gen after next upgrade (block).

Jf-17 need a 100Kn engine and a better radar and more payload atleast 5ton.before export..

B]I mean enough of derailing, I dont know why many of you dont wana see SLAF acquire new platforms. The national defence is the one of the prime concerns of any country in the world. If srilanka is acquiring new Flucrums or thunders or even maritime airframes, its their right, they should buy it. It makes a funny scense that they should not buy it as India is placing its first squadron of LCAs in Tamil nado. Why not to put it by counter question why India is placing LCA squadron in Tamil Nadu? what threats does it have from sirlanka? I mean its natural that SLAF will respond to such moves which in turn will take it more close to China as much of the responsive wishlist highlited by Srilankan is of Chinese origen (not a good move from Indian policy prospective if I may say so)[/B]
coz Chinese navy is trying to increase its strength in Indian ocean and India is preparing for this challenge!this LCAs will strengthen security of our south coast.

.
The planes will only be used against Sri lanka's Tamils at best. Sri Lanka is not an enemy of any nation in SE Asia and even if it were Lanka would need more than a Squadron to even resist the Airforces of other Nations.

So all in all it is just a waste of money which they could have better used to rehabilitate the Tamils or to make some good hotels for tourists which would have improved their economy.
That is their own affair and prerogative. Tourists come in when they feel safe. Ltte terrorism is what damaged tourism prospects. Once the air campaign was in full force the organization took major losses and eventually they fell. Sri lanka does need new fighters, and has other defence needs to be met. Whatever action taken, we Pakistanis wish them best of luck. I think a mix of mig29 and JF Thunder aircrafts with modern armaments and spares will meet these requirements. If republicans were in power instead of bleeding heart dems, i'm sure US would offer fighters under EDA or FMA program, to at least try and wrestle away influence from Russia or of course China.

Navy is doing their part and airforce is doing their part..

Its the simplest and the best reason. :hang2:

offtopic:

You are correct ,but only partially.

The Air strikes didnt have that much effect as to cause the collapse of the LTTE.

For twenty years they withstood the airstrikes with no consequential damage.

The thing that turned the tide in favour of the Sinhalese is that arms smuggling network of the LTTE from Thailand,Burma were comletely destroyed by the Indian Navy with close coordination with the SL Navy.

The lack of Arms and Ammo did the LTTE in.

If IAF has potential threats from China over there then it would have placed MKIs over there. IMHO the tone of action can also be offensive and friendly. If GoI is not able to satisfy Srilanka that their action is not offensive then yes you will always see Srilankans tryin to respond with increasing IAF deployment

Its just that most of the air strips are in western or north eastern side..

The bases has to be uniform and should cover whole country.. There is no point in putting all bases at one or 2 zones..
