I heard that BD military wanted to make its own tanks and India raised objection. Is it true ?

After the 1971 war the Indians took 54 of the tanks that we did have saying we no longer required them. I would not be surprised if they tried to prevent us building tanks.

we do not have pictures of all special forces, only few pictures we have and you already have seen them. special forces has been kept classified as much as possible

Now, it is my turn to talk like a fuzzy Indian poster. If all the special forces news are classified then how do you know that it really exists. I assume BA never dared not to listen to the Suppa Pawa Indian dictate and therefore did not organize a special force. Period.

By Jove!!!! Do you really think it is still 1971? Shei Ram-o Nai Aar shei Ajoddhya-o Nai!!!

1. All i come to know by going through different websites. They mentioned it.
2. Special forces are not for show off, they are not regular forces , are being kept as much as classified as possible. We came to know about SWADS in 2010 whose activities started 3 years back.

This is the authoritative speculation one sees from BD posters ! A tongue in the cheek remark is made with no responsibility for its authenticity.

Indians mindset has not changed since 1971.

But, our Indian guests will not accept it. They want a link that says the BD PM has said so, although all of us know the reality.

why do you care what supa powa says and thinks :omghaha: it is good for us that they do not believe that special forces exist in BD, it means we are keeping them classified very well :D

Do you really think all that commando demands that India made was written on papers to be published in the newspapers next morning and then to the Internet for all the people of the world to read what India is doing or thinking? You know well that these things are classified never to be opened by India or BD.
Please- it's not a SQD of F-22s BD has formed. Raising SF units isn't going change the power balance between India and BD one bit. Why would India give two hoots, from the way I see it India would actually encourage such steps. Now if the BD govt is in the pocket of India as many BD members would have us believe, surely these BD SFs would be used to protect India's interests?

Seriously what threat to India would these SFs pose?

I'll post sources to elaborate the matter of SWADS.

It actually started off back in 2008. Though, something tells me that the entire process started way before that.

Bangladesh navy adds special war unit to fight terror

Bangladesh Navy has commissioned a Special Warfare Diving and Salvage (Swads) unit to strengthen anti-terrorism and anti-piracy drive in the Bay of Bengal during peace time and to go for drastic measures during crisis.

With its organogram approved by the finance ministry in late March, the unit commissioned on December 27 last year is presently looking at a drive to clear the Bay of pirates and smugglers involved in arms trade and drug trafficking. The unit will have around 900-strong manpower.

"During peace time, this will be a complementary force with the coast guards in drives against smugglers, armed groups and terrorists in the Sundarbans area," said navy chief Vice Admiral Zahir Uddin Ahmed.

The US government is assisting Bangladesh Navy to train and develop the force by giving it as grant dozens of rigid inflatable hull boats, defender class vessels and arms and ammunition. The navy is also procuring equipment using government funds from other countries.

From late 2008, the navy has been hammering on setting up this unit and began giving special warfare training to some navy personnel from the following year. It aims at completing training of all the personnel by 2015.

"We have been pursuing naval commando for a long time. We had naval commando in the erstwhile Pakistan Navy. It just took us some time to give it a shape. I have been fortunate to be in my current position to see it commissioned." the navy chief said recently.

"The force is almost fit to launch operation now."

He pointed out that from the seventies, navy staffs had received training in the US. Now the US has brought trainers to Bangladesh to provide the training locally.

A major training includes deep diving for commandos so that they can dive in and plant explosives in enemy ships or installations. The divers are also trained to conduct underwater search, rescue or salvage of people and objects.

The Swads personnel are also trained to dispose of explosives and bombs.

Their training and ability to move quickly to remote areas would also help the navy to better handle natural disasters and post-disaster situation.

With the recent resolution of maritime boundary dispute with Myanmar, the navy now shoulders specific responsibility of protecting the country's offshore oil and gas blocks. And it has to deal with India in the same manner.

The unit will also help trouble-free fishing and secure mining at the country's harbour mouth and key shipping routes.

Another task for the Swads is intelligence gathering and combat surveillance during crisis period, said a navy source.

As war time preparation, the force is being trained to send saboteur teams to destroy enemy vital ships, installations and other major fighting capabilities.

"The addition is a major shift in our defence strategy," said a navy high official. "This will give future foreign investors in oil-gas or port sectors greater confidence to come to Bangladesh."

The navy is currently strengthening itself further by purchasing two corvettes and two frigates soon. Two maritime patrol aircraft have been procured from Germany recently.

"Bangladesh has been affected directly or indirectly by piracy, armed robbery, arms-drug trafficking and other forms of smuggling, and poaching in its maritime front. Particularly, high piracy rates in the anchorage of Chittagong Port, the main maritime port of Bangladesh, have created a wrong image of the country as the second highest piracy-prone area in Asia," said the official.

"The situation is further complicated by the recent development of maritime terrorism," he said. In this trend, local criminals as well as trans-national criminal gangs, mafias and insurgents are posing threats to Bangladesh's maritime area. The new unit will deal with their threats, added the official.

What's more, it was the US that was instrumental in its creation:

PM inaugurates Naval Aviation, names SWADS naval command base “Nirvik”

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Tuesday formally named the naval commando base of Special Warfare Diving and Salvage (SWADS) as ‘’Nirvik’’ and inaugurated the Naval Aviation.

SWADS, the organization of naval commando and divers, began its journey in 2009 and so far trained about 150 naval commandos and 200 divers.

Speaking on the occasion the Prime Minister expressed the hope that `Sea, Air and Land (SEAL)’, the specially trained commando unit under SWADS will play significant role at any critical juncture of the nation.

She also hoped that the naval commandos would play a leading role in curbing any terrorist activities, robbery and smuggling of illegal weapons and drugs on river and sea waters.

Hasina said the diving and salvage group will be able to conduct salvage operation in rescuing people and river craft after any river accident.

The Prime Minister conveyed her gratitude to the US government through US Ambassador Dan Mozena for their continued support for training and development of SWADS.

She hoped that friendship between Bangladesh and USA and the two navies would be strengthened in the future

She also expressed her gratitude to the Italian government through Italian Ambassador Giorgio Guglielmino for providing two marine helicopters to Bangladesh Navy.

The Prime Minister informed that the government signed an agreement to purchase two maritime patrol aircraft from Dornier, a German company. The aircrafts will join the Naval Aviation within 2013.

She said the government wants to build up a modern, tri-dimensional Navy skilled in war strategy to face any challenges in the country’s territorial waters at times of peace and war.

The reason why I said that their lineage started way before 2008 was due to the fact that those commandos are descendants of the very same force that fought during the 71' War. Remember the frogmen?

1. During the War the Indians had obtained assurances from the govt in exile that BD would only have a national militia. To that end Gen Uban Singh, RAW / ITBP, had formed the Mujib Bahini (MB) independent of and unknown to Tajuddin and Osmani.Recruitment into MB was limited to BAL youth cadre or BAL supporters. Although Hasina Govt is currently projecting MB's war time role blowing that out of proportion, in truth MB hardly took part in ops. However, they were prominent after 16 Dec 1971. Recently Hasina also awraded Uban Singh an independence medal which was received by Uban Jr who is a Lieut Gen in IA.

2. After the War Indians moved fast to form JRB. Uban was staying at Dhaka and acted as the de fecto chief secretary to Sheikh advising him on all affairs.Under political control of BAL through Pol Adviser Toafail Ahmed, the initial intake into JRB was from MB. Lieut Col Nuruzzaman (now late, and rose to Brig), an Agartala Conspiracy dismissed PA infantry officer headed JRB. Maj Trivedi, IA and a team of IA JCOs and NCOs were involve in raising, organizing and training JRB. But the true head of JRB remained Uban who would be the chief guest in all passing out parades of JRB officers in India. His speeches to passing out cadets would be totally political exhorting the young men to follow Sheikh and BAL's ideologies of Secularism, Nationalism, Socialism and Democracy.

3. The Indian agenda was to eventually weed out BA, installing JRB in all national security functions. By 1975 there were talks to raise artillery units in JRB. Obviously, Sheikh was unhappy with these. From 1972 began a series of discussions regarding the force level, organogram, etc of BA. These meetings were held with senior BA officers and few bureaucrats from MoD. Sheikh made it a point to attend all. CR Dutta would openly seek scrapping the army saying its existence would only lead to ML. The civil bureaucrats would question the existence saying BD would never be able to field enough strength to contain any Indian invasion.

4. Lieut Col Vohra, Madras Regt was officially the ADA (Army) at the Indian Hi Com. Actually he was the head of Indian Intel for the BA part. After the Sheikh was killed Vohra, then a Brig, went home. Vohra would visit BA Army HQ every morning to monitor its activities. He was always interested to see that the force level of BA did not exceed 25,000. He also maintained a list of professional and brilliant officers in BA for eradicating eventually.

5. All changed with the emergence of Zia Ur Rahman. Zia moved fast to establish security links with Pakistan and China. With these vital links, Zia now felt safe to raise five Divisions - Dhaka, Chittagong, Comilla, Rangpur and Jessore. No wonder - and this is from the Indian media, RAW had this great patriot and emerging leader of the Muslim world, killed using FF and JRB officers.

6. The point I am trying to make here in the paragraphs above is that India has always taken a keen interest in seeing BD remaining vulnerable and weak in defense and isolated in international relations. Ershad was visiting Delhi just after the Bogra Division was raised. In a meeting where officials were present, Raziv Gandhi literally abused him for this. Raziv even threatened to turn ND into a desert where no grass would grow.

Hey check out youtube video title "Bangladesh Navy - Durgam Kandari (song by Hyder Hossain)" , it was posted by BDmilitary forum in 2008, in that video you will see some activities of SWADS. it proves that SWADS is active before 2008, as i told you before :D
