First of all, there does not exist a state or country called "Catalonia" EU already said they are behind Madrid Central Government on this issue and see this as an internal matter of Spain. Which mean EU will not recognize Catalonia if even if Catalonia was indeed separated from Spain. And without EU, there are not much chance Catalonia is going to survive given Central Spanish Government will not support its country.

On the other hand, Spain does not even considering sanction the action of separating Catalonia and Spain, Catalonia can vote what they want, but Spain will say this is BS and they can ignore it, and Catalonia do not have anything to resist Spain and the only thing that can allow Catalonia is for Spanish to approve, which is something they will never do.

People in Espana know this act is a shame, as the Catalunya do not have any stance both domestically and internationally. In this case, it's even worse than Scottish independent movement.
