Oh, that's completely different; a clinical extreme, actually. Even here, locally, where drinking habits are so primitive and so strongly driven by miserable lives and poor living conditions, it is so easy to make out a drinker with the first deep breath in his proximity; fortunately, I have not had the misfortune of coming across women drunk in public. The vast majority of drinkers in here have horrid habits; sit down with a determination to get 'drunk'; an obsession with getting a kick; indulgence in the harshest, crudest liquor, in order to be able to afford to drink the most possible amount before losing control; the losing control, that thankfully you have described, and that I can therefore skirt.

On a lighter note, as a tourist in Vienna in 1989, I was walking down an upmarket commercial area in the early afternoon, with obviously externally very nice restaurants, when a very formally dressed person stepped out of a restaurant, faintly unsteady in his gait, went on for a hundred yards or so, then paused, threw up very deliberately into the gutter, and then proceeded calmly on his way. Very unsettling.

Perhaps I was the only person in the town/campus who wasn't drunk and ..for the first time in my life, I really wished I could.. not because I developed a liking for the intoxicant but to avoid the horrible scenes of the most uncivilised displays by the most civilised people..

Dalai Lama's former biographer takes up residence in mainland China

“I’ve now really become a Chinese citizen,” he was quoted as telling senior Sichuan government official Cui Baohua last week.

A former senoir member of the exiled Tibetan government in India and one-time biographer for the Dalai Lama has returned to live in China, a Chinese government-run news website said.
Achok Rinpoche, who was born in Sichuan in 1944 and left in 1959 after a failed Tibetan uprising against Chinese rule, first went back to China in 1982 as part of an effort by Beijing to engage with exiled Tibetans, the Chinese website said.
"The motherland and home are the best.The motherland is the warmest," it said.
