For ASEAN, a trading bloc, it is all about market demand.

India is just one of the growing and promising market apart from others, why should ASEAN abandon China in favour of India? Most non claimant states in ASEAN stays away from the South China Sea dispute and discussion. It is NOT their problem.

India and Australia in the opinion of many in ASEAN are interlopers or to put it crudely BUSYBODY.

Look at the size of China auto market - it is 28.9 million in 2017 and growing?

How about India? It is still a small economy for the size of its population at only a small fraction of China.
