1,200 megawatts RLNG-fired plant to be set up in Muzaffargarh

The government has decided to establish 1,200 MW RLNG-fired power plant in Muzaffargarh (Punjab) as part of its plan to eliminate power load-shedding in the country by 2018. The project was approved by the PPIB Board headed by Minister for Water and Power, Khawaja Asif, in its 108th meeting held on Friday.

The decision of establishing 1,200 MW RLNG based power project at Muzaffargarh, Punjab was taken in the light of the advice of the Cabinet Committee on Energy (CCoE) in its meeting, wherein Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif lifted ban on RLNG-fired power plants. Federal Government is already setting up two RLNG fired power plants in Punjab near the load centres whereas one similar is being established by the Punjab government.

The sources said, Prime Minister had directed the Ministry of Water and Power to initiate the process of advertisement through PPIB for inviting prospective investors for installation of 1,200 MW RLNG-fired power plants on IPP mode which could fulfil the following requirements: (i) give assurance for single cycle operations of power plant by March 2018; (ii) be able to bring Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) as partners or with given commitment to provide turbines; (iii) be willing to start installation without financial close; and (iv) be able to provide a performance guarantee for meeting timelines other than quality and standards.

Prime Minister had directed the Ministry of Water and Power to review the generation requirement rate due to increase in electricity demand on account of industrial growth and economic activities. Khawaja Asif said that in order to make electricity affordable, various short to medium and medium to long term power generation projects based on coal, hydro, RLNG, solar & wind are being established all across the country in private and public sectors.

Managing Director PPIB Shah Jahan Mirza gave a briefing to the Board on the 1,200 MW RLNG-based power project being processed. He stated that the said project will be located at Muzaffargarh near the existing Muzaffargarh Thermal Power Station of NPGCL having gas turbines based combined cycle technology. The power plant will have minimum annual availability of 92 percent. Open Cycle Operation is scheduled to start by February, 2018 whereas the full Combined Cycle Operation will start by end 2018. This is a viable option to address the electricity demand supply gap in early 2018 and ensuring elimination of load shedding by that time. Furthermore, due to the highly efficient and state of the art technology of the plant, this will be able to replace old and retiring power plants in the public sector. He said the RFP document for the project has been prepared and it will be advertised in the coming days, and bids will be invited through single stage, two envelope bidding approach.

LAHORE - Minister of State for Water and Power Chaudhry Abid Sher Ali and Member of National Assembly Chaudhry Tahir Bashir Cheema on Tuesday inaugurated the 220kV grid station at Chishtian near Bahawalnagar.

Speaking on the occasion, the minister said that the government is committed to eliminate load shedding from the country. Power projects of over 10,000MW capacity are being completed on fast track. 220 kV grid station Chishtian along with 88km transmission line has been constructed by National Transmission and Despatch Company Ltd. (NTDC) with the cost of Rs2633 million, he added. He appreciated the NTDC management, engineers and staff for timely completion of the project and said that the grid station will end forced load shedding, improve voltage level and minimise tripping, which was being faced due to overloading of the system. Resultantly, power supply for the people of Chishtian, Bahawalnagar, Hasilpur, Noor Sar, Haroonabad, Dhahranwala and Fortabbas will be improved in urban and rural areas, he added.

He said the ministry and DISCOs have overcome 90 percent system constraints and maximum relief will be provided to consumers during the holy month of Ramadan. He announced that there will be no load shedding across the country on the day of Pakistan Super League (PSL) final match being held at Lahore. He also assured the locals for creation of new subdivisions in MEPCO offices to ease their problems related to electricity.

While giving the details of NTDC projects, NTDC GSC General Manager Wajahat Saeed Rana said that 220kV grid station Chishtian will provide power to six 132kV grid stations of MEPCO for subsequent distribution to feeders. He said that NTDC is completing its projects on war footing to connect 50 power plants with national grid. Presently, 37 projects of grid stations and transmission lines are under different stages of completion. NTDC has recently connected 1,320MW coal fired power plant and 1,230MW RLNG Bhikki Power Plant. Whereas, transmission line for 230MW Haveli Bahadur Shah will be connected soon since its transmission line has already been completed. 90 percent construction work of 500kV Neelum Jhelum Transmission Line has also been completed. To evacuate power from under construction power plants with 4,000MW capacity, the work on 660kV HVDC transmission line from Matiari to Lahore will be started soon. He said in the jurisdiction of its projects, NTDC will help deserving and poor students for their education under its CSR initiatives.

No where in Pakistan, it appears that it's civilized world... beyond, Lahore, Islamabad and Karachi its worst than a stables of civilized world. Entire Sindh province is living in stone age, only difference they get free electricity by hooking up on electricity pole.
Everyone in Pakistan strongly believe stealing, cheating and lying is halal.

Spending money on restoration of nonsense gates is criminal, while the people behind the gates are walking in dirty streets.
