ISLAMABAD: The South Punjab Secretariat will formally become operational on October 15, as decided by a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Imran Khan on Friday.

The meeting on establishment and working of South Punjab Secretariat was attended by Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi. Chief Minister Punjab Usman Buzdar, Finance Minister Punjab Makhdoom Hashim Jawan Bakht, Chief Secretary Punjab, Additional Chief Secretary South Punjab and Additional Inspector General South Punjab joined via video-link.

The premier emphasised that the government’s main focus was to bring about improvement in the lives of common man and directed the administration of South Punjab to work in fulfilling the same vision.

He lauded efforts of CM Buzdar and the Punjab government for establishment of South Punjab Secretariat, and said solid steps reflected PTI government’s will to implement its manifesto in letter and spirit.

He regretted that governments in the past ignored the genuine issue of the people of South Punjab.
Stressing on the need for Provincial Finance Commission Award, the prime minister said separate allocation for South Punjab would usher in a new era of progress and prosperity.

Imran Khan directed to complete process of devolution of power phase-wise to ensure smooth running of administrative procedures.

He asked to keep him regularly updated on the progress of the working of new secretariat.

FM Qureshi highlighted the practical steps taken by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf in accordance with the aspirations of people of southern Punjab, establishment of South Punjab Secretariat, devolution of administrative powers, ending sense of deprivation and resolving problems at their doorsteps.
He said the PTI government had fulfilled its promise to establish South Punjab Secretariat, which had developed a new spirit among the people of the area about their identity.

Qureshi presented a proposal for allocating budget for South Punjab in next year’s Public Sector Development Programme and reserving a quota for the locals in employment.

The meeting informed the prime minister that rules of business of Punjab government had been amended following the establishment of South Punjab Secretariat and 16 secretaries had been deputed in South Punjab.
The prime minister was updated that health, education, police, planning and development, local government, finance and agriculture had been transferred to South Punjab.

An effective structural organisation has been put in place in the new secretariat equipped with technology, e-governance and paperless culture to facilitate the people.

This 5 stored structure will be built on Mattital Road Multan, at a cost of Rs. 3.5 Billion, for resolving issues of the people of South Punjab at their doorstep!

Govt grants Rs189b for development projects of South Punjab

Minister for Industries and Production Makhdoom Khusro Bakhtiar, on Wednesday, said that the government has granted Rs189 billion for development projects of South Punjab.

According to the details, he was chairing a high-level meeting held at South Punjab Secretariat in Bahawalpur.

Makhdoom Khusro said that the initiative aims to bring development of the South Punjab Secretariat at Bahawalpur and Multan. The government is putting in all-out efforts to eradicate backwardness from the region.

It is pertinent to state here that the government has separated the annual development design for South Punjab Secretariat whereas a sum of Rs 189 billion has been granted to complete 2500 development projects.

Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan, on Wednesday inaugurated multiple projects, including a nursing college, cricket stadium, and cotton research institute at Islamia University Bahawalpur.

He inaugurated a nursing college equipped with teaching facilities of international standard. The college will not only be helpful in capacity building of the existing human resource in the nursing sector, but will also provide employment opportunities to the youth of the South Punjab.

Alongside, inaugurating a cricket stadium at Baghdad-ul-Jadeed campus of the university, to promote cricket, he launched a solar project with a capacity of generating 2.5 megawatt of electricity to fulfill IUB's energy needs and additional electricity will be provided to Multan Electric Power Company.

It is pertinent to mention that per unit of electricity to be generated from this project will cost Rs 1.7. This project will collectively contribute Rs455 million to the national exchequer in 25 years.

The premier also inaugurated National Cotton Breeding Institute and Intercropping Research Centre to bring advancement in yield of agri products all across the country through research.
 
DERA GHAZI KHAN: Chief Minister Usman Buzdar on Sunday laid the foundation stones of eight projects worth billions of rupees for the development and progress of Fort Munro.

The chief minister who was accompanied by Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani, Minister of State Zartaj Gul, Punjab Land Record Authority chairman Ahmad Ali Dareshak, Adviser Hanif Pitafi, Tourism Adviser Asif Mahmood and others inaugurated Solar Lights Network at Fort Munro, five-kilometre long Fort Munro-Langar Khandsar link road and upgradation and provision of basic facilities at the resort.

He also inaugurated the restoration project of historic buildings and annexe at Fort Munro. Among other projects are water supply scheme, project to promote tourism at Koh-e-Suleman, Rescue 1122 station and a high school.

Officials briefed Mr Buzdar on development projects including Fort Munro Cadet College and Welfare Complex.

The chief minister, the Senate chairman and others planted trees in the area.

The chief minister at a meeting with notables and tribal elders at Fort Munro said the Koh-e-Suleman Development Authority had been activated. He said Rs5.70 billion had been reserved for the development and welfare of the people of the area. The Punjab government, he said, had allocated 100 acre for the Fort Munro cadet college.

He said another cadet college would be set up at Koh-e-Suleman area for which a feasibility study was being conducted. The children of Koh-e-Suleman would be given free admission to the college besides provision of boarding and other expenses.

He said Fort Munro would be declared an urban area with the preparation of a master plan. He also promised installation of RO (reverse osmosis) plants, electricity in the areas of Sakhi Sarwar to Tuman Buzdar and Tuman Leghari, a veterinary hospital at Tuman Leghari and a hospital at Rakhni area of Balochistan.

Earlier, Usman Buzdar and Sadiq Sanjrani visited Abdul Rehman Khetran’s house and condoled his mother’s death.

South Punjab secretariat to be given administrative autonomy: CM

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar said on Monday that the South Punjab Secretariat will be given administrative autonomy while a separate budget has been reserved for South Punjab along with its ring-fencing.

"A separate ADP book for South Punjab has also been compiled and work is in progress according to the priorities of residents of South Punjab," the CM said while chairing a meeting at his office, to dilate on rules of business of South Punjab Secretariat.

Law Minister Raja Basharat, Finance Minister Hashim Jawan Bakht, chief secretary, ACS, ACS (South Punjab) and others attended the meeting.

LAHORE: As promised by Prime Minister Imran Khan, the Punjab government has taken practical step to solve problems of the people from the southern part of the province, said Chief Minister Usman Buzdar.

Addressing a post-cabinet meeting press conference here on Tuesday, Mr Buzdar said the meeting approved amendments to the Punjab Government Rules of Business 2011, empowering the bureaucracy in the south to solve people’s problems locally.

The amendments clearly defined powers of the south Punjab additional chief secretary (ACS), secretaries and departments. The south side, the CM said, would include Bahawalnagar, Bahawalpur, Dera Ghazi Khan, Khanewal, Layyah, Lodhran, Multan, Muzaffargarh, Rahim Yar Khan, Rajanpur and Vehari.


CM says 17 depts being moved to the south; ACS to have powers to transfer BPS-17 officers

Dilating upon the amendments, he said 17 departments were being moved to the south and the secretaries would be fully empowered administratively and the ACS (south Punjab) has been given powers to transfer Grade 17 officers.

He has also been given the authority to approve budgets and provide funds to the commissioners, deputy commissioners and assistant commissioners.

The ACS is authorised to write annual confidential reports of secretaries, who will enjoy all powers of promotions, transfers and recruitments given to their counterparts in the northern part of the province. The heads of autonomous bodies, boards, authorities and companies will be answerable to the secretaries, he added. A 33 per cent budget, amounting to Rs190 billion, has been reserved for the south.

Answering a question on law and order, the CM said the government had solved heinous crime cases. “I issued directions to the police after taking notice of such cases and some policemen were also removed from their posts, he said.

The approval of rules of business for the south Punjab secretariat was a historic step to solve problems at the grassroots and the public will not have to visit Lahore for the purpose. “Prime Minister Imran Khan will soon lay the foundation stone for the south secretariat in Bahawalpur,” he added.
