It's not racist - not in the classical sense anyway. Pakistani's do not have the baggage of slavery and colonialism that Europeans do, we don't have the same "racism" that they do. Reference to skin colour is pretty much like reference to any other physical attribute in our society.

In western culture, white has been a symbol of innocence, virginity, virtue, the holy but sometimes also of death.

In Pakistan it is literally common to call someone lambo - tall...And in no way do we take it an offense if someone is nicknamed kallu!

However, I can understand this in SA would carry different meaning because of their history and Sarfraz should have been more careful!

This is terrible when your lack of understanding of the culture makes you ignorant of the culture despite claiming your PhD on the culture!

Pathetic that everyone here is more concerned and discussing about a person being called black.

But non is seem discussing about the language used against someones mother. It's a real shame that the skipper don't know how to respect a mother.

I've been most polite and civil during the entire discussion here. Yet you are the one who is showing signs of the culture that I was taking about. And that too without any provocation I guess. lol, he didnt insult his mother, its common culture here in Pak that mothers sit on prayer mat praying for thier sons whether they have gone to war, an exam or a competition. He refered to this when he said, where is ur mother sitting, what had she prayed for u. Atleast try to understand things before jumping to conclusions.

Irrespective of the intentions in the skippers mind. Why unnecessarily bring in parents expecially mom in any kind of discussions/comments ?? That is not a sign of any healthy culture. Atleast from my perspective.

Buddy he didnt mean it in racist context but i can understand how this topic is very sensitive for south africa. The most we can accuse sarfraz of is insensivity, not racism and he didnt say it in english so it wasnt targetted at him but a jibe for his teammates.This black white divide doesnt exist in Pakistan.

Oh I did tackle his abusive post and told him to mind his language...We do encourage people from different nations to interact. It is when you cut off you get confused about culture and that results in confusion altogether!
