What's new

Skardu as MOB?

Fighters from Minhas and Chakala reach the sector in no time anyway. We're good in north. It is the southern command which needed the most attention. We catered to them by establishing Bholari. And placing F-16s there. It's settled now.

The location of Bholari is very close to border, Seems like the strategy is for like a offensive rather than defensive, like on a moment notice we can get to IAF bases and other FOB in no time .

It is because it is a deserted area. Which means maximum radar range due to clear line of sight. As soon as their fighters come close (around 7nm), We scramble.

Skarfu and hunza have airfields for use in war time only. Otherwise they will be an easy target without adequate defence.

Not at all it’s near Hyderabad and after which there are fobs close to the border area MoB will support other fobs which are actually closer to border new base is 100 plus km inside where fobs are close

In fact bholari is less than 100 km from masroor

So paf has FOB at skardu which is about 7500 ft above sea level and active only in summer

Vs IAF has one sqn based permanently at LeH which is about 11500 ft above sea level

Question why is skardu not a MOB covering north north ?

Can have permanent 1 sqn MOB at skardu to cover north north that way reaction time will be far less and Other bases can focus on their own assigned aor??

With cpec now there is more focus on north north

Not sure [emoji848]
Active only in the summer??? Where did you get that from. Its active when they want it to be active

A base near the border of mardan/malakand would make more sense.

MOB does not need to be near border or it would be under most SOW ranges.

It can be connected to swat expressway via an interchange and would be 1.5-2 hours away from kamra/risalpur if required for logistics.

It would be below the snow line so it would be operational most of the time.

It will be near the foothills so there would be some cover from SOWs at some angles as well.

It will be north of Peshawar almost parallel to Srinagar.

It would be around 260 km from Srinagar so can cover the northern side apart from kamra.

No body putting airbase which is 10 km air distance from existing Mob

It can replace peshawar considering rapid urbanization there.

Israel also has many airbases wthin short aerial distance for better dispersal of assets.

It is not dumb at all.

Most radars have difficulty in tracking targets beyond high mountains since the beam does not reflect back.
There should an Air base in such an area that surroundings are mountains, and that when a fighter takes off, there must be many valleys, surrounded by mountains from both sides, this will avoid IAF picking up our take-off / CAP activities on low altitudes.

As for our radars, they must be stationed to provide the optimum coverage if not the best due to mountainous region.

There is a big gap up north

Skardu is getting a new runway. Perhaps PAF is planning to expand it's operations up north.

Already in place

It has two runways for last so many years

One for military and wide body greater than equal to 9000 feet and another shorter one but caa is buying more land to build an international airport for civilian traffic increase due to cepec

I think either chilas or skardu will probably will become a new MOB in future due to importance of CEpec

I may be wrong but this is my guess skardu has already paf presence it’s just to station a permanent sqn all year with other paa support elements the question is if iaf can man LEH at 11500 feet and the Swedes can man their at high altitude in harsh bases with weather than so can paf??

I guess I will check the reason but wanted to share if someone already has an answer

In north north chilas and skardu can become MOB and FOB supporting each other ??

Northern areas due to cpec now become very sensitive and important life line for gawadar and industrial estates all over the country. This network will go north and south also linked to the west Afghanistan and Turkmenistan Iran etc
