Very interesting test and very close to serial production as well !! There is no relenting on the nuke scenario.

So what exactly are we trying to convey to Pakistan?

That we are actively and successfully developing regular ABM measures that will render most of your arsenal ineffective. Not just that --- you do not have a similar ABM system --- and yet we develop a hybrid missile --- so that in future if you do decide to get a credible ABM system from China, chances of it being successful against Shourya are slim.

Hence do not even dream of pressing the nuke button. We will at all times retaliate with force while possessing decent deterrent measures as well. Kind of 'call my bluff' attitude about Pakistan's increased reliance on nukes against Indian military aggression.

I think DRDO should start to use Agni 1 and Shaurya missiles as targets instead of Prithvi 2s while testing the PDV(from the 4th or 5th test).That way DRDO can perfect the ABM to near 100% efficacy.If they can successfully intercept the Shaurya,then the Indian ABM will destroy anything that Pakistan can throw at us.

majority part of trajectory is flat and the initial and final stages still resemble a ballistic missile. The difference from ballistic missiles stems from the air independent propulsion whereas propulsion is absolutely absent in ballisitc missiles except the boost phase.

Was thinking same. But I think they have done it already. None of the K-15 tests were made public. If not done, than also it will not be public.

PDV test supposed to be in 2010 but delayed. I hope it will happen this year. The 2nd phase ie AD-1 and AD-2 will take some more years. they are under development.

BHUBANESHWAR: India tested a medium-range nuclear-capable missile along its eastern coast on Saturday, an official said, as part of the nation’s efforts to build up its atomic deterrent.

The indigenous surface-to-surface Shourya missile was fired from a range in the eastern state of Orissa as a trial for the Indian army, said SP Dash, director of the Integrated Test Range.

“The launch of the missile was perfect. It followed the path exactly to the predefined target in the Bay of Bengal,” Dash told AFP.

India’s Defence Research Development Organisation is developing a series of missiles as part of the country’s deterrent strategy against neighbouring Pakistan and China, which also have nuclear weapons.

The Shourya – built domestically and developed for the army – is being fine-tuned after its debut in November 2008.

With a striking range of 434 miles, the missile uses solid propellant and is capable of carrying a 1,000 kilogram warhead.

Due to security concerns, authorities evacuated over 2,000 people, including women and children living close to the testing range, and shifted them to temporary shelters.
