Should Pakistan's Railways be outsourced to China

It is like water supply service, you dont give it to private companies. Though it should not run into deep loss but neither should it be crassly commercialized. will a private company lay tracks into remote parts where they wont make profit but it is absolutely needed by the people of the region.

If they are given control over fares or service availability then yeah they will build, although its unlikely they will lay tracks in remote areas anyway without government subsidies.

A simple increase in railway fares will ground your economy or tilt the political balance during elections.

A company cant just increase fares without public backlash, the Chinese have no interest in Pakistans internal affairs, but if they did then rapidly increasing prices would be a good way to kill off customer base.

I was of opinion to Let Chinese corporation run the business as a Business and then simply Pay Pakistan 40% of the Profits

Last 10 years we got 0% profit so 40% is better then 0%

But the revenue would improve 1000% level so our return would be better

Pakistani Administration is just so clueless how to run or manage any corporation successfully

Chinese Corporation Run Business:

• Productivity 100%-150%

• Higher quality return to consumer
• Confirmed 40% Profit from a running system

Completely agree, but Chinese are smart people when it comes to money. If they dont see profit, they wont invest.

On the other hand I am surprised to see Indian members commenting here, I dont understand why do they get excited and flood the thread with negative comments when it comes to SinoPak cooperation?

Pak railways can be turned around like many other government entities with a mix of political will, the right person for the right job and time. Privatization or outsourcing is not a magic wand that will cure the institutions of its ills. Simply run the govt. entities like a normal corporation that is held accountable to its stockholders and you would be surprised with the positive results. we have a number of organizations in our country who are performing exceptionally well because of the right corporate culture and values and very good checks and balances. These things were simply non existent in the railways. Now things are much better than the dreaded "billour years" but they have along way to go.
As far as outsourcing to the chinese is concerned, one cannot simply handover all the railways to the chinese. Why not give it to the local players? Why not have an fair privatization mechanism and give part of it to the highest bidder. See how they manage to run it before going for the full thing. But remember, you have to invest a lot of political capital in this as many vested interests in the railways, media etc will not want this to succeed. And unfortunately, political capital is scarce right now in all of Pakistan's political parties.
Hence, better to try to fix it yourselves that invest a lot of time and energy in an adventure that simply is not feasible in the current political environment.

Are we so corrupt that we cannot think of running our institutions or making new inventions. Think with your mind. If there is a sincere leadership, it would put the bases of new train making plant along with Switzerland, Japan or China to make fast bullet trains in 5 to 10 years time. Until we have to run and upgrade the existing system.

Tumhain China ko da daita hain , it is better.
Our parternership with Chiba is deep, they come to support us when we are in need, and everyone come to make profit but we are thankful that they chose to invest when we have bad security situation and their investment is also some of the many reasons our situation has approved a lot.
But we are totally capable to do things. All we need is a good leadership, who just take charge.
