Pakistan, China agree to revise cost of ML-1 project

I don't understand why Pakistan invests huge amount of money in military production but likes to outsource basic civil engineering works like roads and rail. The projects are fairly easy and would have given employment to a large number of unskilled and semiskilled people instead of increasing foreign debt and increasing dependence on foreign know how.

Because the military can only run the military. Civilian government must flourish for civilian projects to work

It is about connectivity between 250 millions with 1.3 billions. With rest of world..... I dont mind spending 50 billion on this project.
It will reduce burden on our Motorways and roads. Which was destroyed by nato trucks in Afghanistan war.. train load will help our eco economic system.
If you get connected with central Asia. Good train system will help and safe us billions. This train system can reach Afghanistan and other central Asian countries

Costs always go up they do not go down ( Inflation and the constant danger of under estimating complex civil projects ).
If you rip more than 30% of ML1 costs then it can mean only one thing.
Ml1 will not do the job it was meant for.

Think on of what that means, and its inevitable consequences. [ An expansion of debt and a white elephant that did not achieve the project objectives ]

Of course these warnings fall on deaf ears in Pakistan until the bailiff is knocking at the door

good news as we desperately needed this rail line
but depend on how they do it
(if its electric or not?, is it fenced?, wb freight train)

on its own its a great project (way more important than lot of BS highways, metro trains etc)

We need 4-5 things to help solve our CAD issues

Ml-1 (electric, fenced, with a good freight system)
A huge network of public transportation based on electric busses throughout the country from big cities to small cities
Electric motorbikes
encourage solar panels for household consumptions
hydro, nuclear, coal for commercial & industrial consumption

I really hope they didn’t take out bridge crossing to lower costs. Level crossing have been the number 1 reason for majority of the accidents and considering our jahil awam it will continue to be if they still keep it that way.
After track is upgraded and doubled there will be more trains passing at higher speeds. Imagine freakin ppl and cow’s getting clobbered left and right every few miles in populated areas because of level crossings.
They already had taken out fencing of entire line out to reduce costs and kept it near cities only, but level crossings? Thats just inviting the traffic to congregate at these crossings and then collisions

It is not necessary for the Chinese to accept every project in Pakistan. Be thankful for what they are doing already.

Pakistan should develop an advanced industrial capability - if this is difficult to achieve in the near term then convince more countries to invest in Pakistan. Don't put all of your eggs in one basket - this is not fair to the Chinese.

A couple of things to consider before moving forward.

First, we often forget, unlike China or India, that we inherited almost none or poor quality industrial infrastructure at the time of partition. We started from scratch and literally picked up the bricks. However, we managed to establish a strong industrial setup in a very short span of time.

Second, I personally believe that the ill-advised, ill-timed and foolish 1965 war was the turning point in our history and we NEVER recovered from that stupidity. This decision started the chain reaction and domino effect, which eventually destroyed our reputation, divided our country, damaged our society, our ability to make the right decisions, and most importantly our will to become a better nation.
