Should Pakistan Go for EMP burst Devices and Jamming technologies?

Then Spend it on Infrustructures, Health + hopspital etc, maintainance, education, Food and help the flood Victims of Pakistan
rather than on weapons at the moment, because without these you can't build a better Pakistan.

THis is not to put any Pakistani down, but there are some things are more needed than others.

The military does what it is supposed to and that is to counter the military of enemy countries. The thing is, corruption in the military is not tolerated but in other sectors, it is rampant. Military doesn't do building, they do defending with whatever money they are given.

.
In 2007 MOD conducted an experiment in Cornwall. They not only Jammed the GPS satellite signals but also spoofed it,and replaced it with their own false signal. That way taking control of an incoming enemy SMART Bomb or Missile and guiding it where ever they wanted to.
US military uses encoded GPS. And if necessary, we can deny GPS access locally. Except for US, of course.

.
if all the airwaves above Pakistan is jammed to make enemies blind..won't this effect all your radars even AWACS,I strongly think nations normally scoop on enemies radar & all frequencies to eavesdrop, and make preparations during WAR,but am not sure the nations use different frequencies during WAR & peace time, a broad band (rich in harmonics) RF source with pulsed power in MegaWatt range with very narrow "ON" time is what u need to Jam all these devices, these can be installed at vulnerable places, but with anti radiation missiles around these will be sitting ducks to those missiles.

Tell me, what were you thinking when you started this thread ?

and please explain the title of this thread to me ...

Every encryption is decipherable, and the encrypted GPS is no exception..This being a technology of mid 90s is no longer cutting edge, and i am sure governments out there have already decrypted the signal...

Although i have to admit that on the civilian side GPS may be one of the most used free and valuable service provided by USA to the whole wide world...

The title is self explanatory...What else you want to ask? I am a bit confused by your reply? Please elaborate...

Speaking of EMP, have you guys heard about this?

Massive solar storm to hit Earth in 2012 with 'force of 100m bombs'

Melbourne, Aug 26 (ANI): Astronomers are predicting that a massive solar storm, much bigger in potential than the one that caused spectacular light shows on Earth earlier this month, is to strike our planet in 2012 with a force of 100 million hydrogen bombs.

Several US media outlets have reported that NASA was warning the massive flare this month was just a precursor to a massive solar storm building that had the potential to wipe out the entire planet's power grid.

Despite its rebuttal, NASA's been watching out for this storm since 2006 and reports from the US this week claim the storms could hit on that most Hollywood of disaster dates - 2012.

Similar storms back in 1859 and 1921 caused worldwide chaos, wiping out telegraph wires on a massive scale. The 2012 storm has the potential to be even more disruptive.

"The general consensus among general astronomers (and certainly solar astronomers) is that this coming Solar maximum (2012 but possibly later into 2013) will be the most violent in 100 years," News.com.au quoted astronomy lecturer and columnist Dave Reneke as saying.

"A bold statement and one taken seriously by those it will affect most, namely airline companies, communications companies and anyone working with modern GPS systems.

"They can even trip circuit breakers and knock out orbiting satellites, as has already been done this year," added Reneke.

No one really knows what effect the 2012-2013 Solar Max will have on today's digital-reliant society.

Dr Richard Fisher, director of NASA's Heliophysics division, told Reneke the super storm would hit like "a bolt of lightning", causing catastrophic consequences for the world's health, emergency services and national security unless precautions are taken.

NASA said that a recent report by the National Academy of Sciences found that if a similar storm occurred today, it could cause "1 to 2 trillion dollars in damages to society's high-tech infrastructure and require four to 10 years for complete recovery".

The reason for the concern comes as the sun enters a phase known as Solar Cycle 24.

Most experts agree, although those who put the date of Solar Max in 2012 are getting the most press.

They claim satellites will be aged by 50 years, rendering GPS even more useless than ever, and the blast will have the equivalent energy of 100 million hydrogen bombs.

"We know it is coming but we don't know how bad it is going to be," Fisher told Reneke.

"Systems will just not work. The flares change the magnetic field on the Earth and it's rapid, just like a lightning bolt. That's the solar effect," he added.

The findings are published in the most recent issue of Australasian Science. (ANI)

This should be a good dry run. I've started preparing for the apocalypse already:partay:

what would happen to those radiation hardened satellites ? time will tell

Yes, yes we do.

No intentions to flame but at times it makes me laugh..do you know understand that your economy is in dolldrums..when with these massive floods how bad the situation is...now money in the form of AID is something else..anyways..if u have the money thats good for you you sholud go ahead with your plans..it will be the game changer in the co,ming future:sniper::toast_sign:

Hi,

This post is about 12 years behind time----I wrote a few pieces about the issue a few years ago on this board and on pak def dot info---. One of the biggest concerns the u s had about pak was its possessing the EMP air burst device.

The U S believed that some pak students studying at UCLA in the 90's had taken charge of the design of the EMP device back to pakistan---. it was aceepted that pak already had these devices and could use them over indias technology intensive centers to take them out.

I don't remember if it was newsweek or times that had and article in 1999 or year 2000.

According to the above mentioned magazines the emp destroys the infra structure of the city and its communication. Here is a scenario according to them---and emp burst over a city---it will fry everything electric / electronic that is hooked up by a plug to and electrical outlet--even if it is on or off. Secondly---the surge will also destroy the items not hooked up---that is not plugged it---like your toaster---blender computer----your gas engine automobile motorcycles and similiar equipment----.

The voltage surge blast will travel through the existing electricity grid and through air. Buildings that are designed and protected on the basis of farady's cages will survive but nothing else. It is basically a clean weapons----only thing is that the after effects are horrendous and more deadly.

No electricity would bring a city to a dead stop---all the dead cars and motocycle and transportation stopped on their tracks would hinder any police and fire dept activity. Water pump motors would burn out---no food item being shipped in or out---toilets backed up---no drinking water----just in a flash---a major city would go back in time---to a stone age. Gangs and renegades will take over the city---crime will instantaneously take charge of the streets and buildings. Humanity will turn on each other with such a venegeance never seen in the living history of the current occupants.

The fear of losingtheir electronics based computer industry has been deemed the biggest fear and concern our neighbours had from our capability.

BLAH BLAH much hyped ,.this has been copied from some article consequences as if in a nuke attack---and if pak has such a weapon they wouldn't have wasted their pennies on other military hardwares like missiles & even JF17----one such EMP is needed to FREEZE INDIA:D--is the technology compact ? can it be carried in a pocket or suitcase ? :D

This is a generalized statement that anyone can make. Basically, easier said than done. And no one has done it.

This being a technology of mid 90s is no longer cutting edge, and i am sure governments out there have already decrypted the signal...
GPS satellites are replaced every few years due to fuel expenditure. The replacement is always upgraded. What you are certain is irrelevant. What you can bring to the discussion in terms of evidence is not.

THE WHITE HOUSE

Office of the Press Secretary

For Immediate Release May 1, 2000

STATEMENT BY THE PRESIDENT REGARDING THE UNITED STATES' DECISION TO STOP DEGRADING GLOBAL POSITIONING SYSTEM ACCURACY

<snipped>

My decision to discontinue SA was based upon a recommendation by the Secretary of Defense in coordination with the Departments of State, Transportation, Commerce, the Director of Central Intelligence, and other Executive Branch Departments and Agencies. They realized that worldwide transportation safety, scientific, and commercial interests could best be served by discontinuation of SA. Along with our commitment to enhance GPS for peaceful applications, my administration is committed to preserving fully the military utility of GPS. The decision to discontinue SA is coupled with our continuing efforts to upgrade the military utility of our systems that use GPS, and is supported by threat assessments which conclude that setting SA to zero at this time would have minimal impact on national security. Additionally, we have demonstrated the capability to selectively deny GPS signals on a regional basis when our national security is threatened. This regional approach to denying navigation services is consistent with the 1996 plan to discontinue the degradation of civil and commercial GPS service globally through the SA technique.
The US removed the degradation feature of the GPS satellites. But if our national security is threatened, we can instruct each satellite that when its orbit path is over so-and-so country -- do not transmit -- effectively turn off all GPS availability to that region. Except for US, of course.

So are you claiming that Pakistan has an EMP device to destroy an entire city ?

.
Well the only option for Pakistan is to burst nukes high.

We surely neither have the technology nor the resources to dream about a conventional EMP device in a century(or decades if somehow Pakistan gets on the track of china).

.
If i am not wrong India is working on EMP devices under the name project KALI and Project Durga. But India denies the role in defence and say that they are mainly for the scientific purpose.

can somebody confirm?
