Shortage of labor in so called "poor" India

Who cares about figures. I have travelled around India enough to see how things have changed over time. Our future looks bright. Everyone has equal and ample opportunities to grow. If your not earning its probably because your lazy.

I mean a decade ago unemployment was a hot topic for opposing parties, now we dont even hear about it. If someone is poor, its because they haven't tried to be successful.

. . .
really??? that means Rs.6000 per month.

I dont think its that high.

Minimum wages are divided in three category.... My father is a contractor so I know that

And trust me all three are more than 200 per day per person

.
Well maybe not everyone has such a job. This 100 rupees is in what time though? Per day? Per week? etc

A female construction worker (the lowest in the hierarchy) gets paid 135 INR per day for about 9 hours of work.

Your link of Aug 2007 is perhaps a little outdated for Dec 2010.

Shortage of skilled labours because unfortunately a large swathe of indians are uneducated. Secondly it has to do with the caste mentality of hiring. Many indians are reculant to hire anyone outside their community / social status.

This shows ur lack of knowledge and info but a strong urge to troll and flame.

Read my post carefully its not about skilled workers its about uneducated farm labor or a simple mill worker.

The poor people are getting jobs easily and that too ner their home that's why there is shortage of cheap labor if you want labor you have to provide high wages and also the facilities so that labor don't leave your job.

. .
Shortage of labor hits every where during the high season of harvesting or if a project is started nearby. Nothing new or special the important thing is can they make it through the whole year.

Nevertheless its great if people have enough to eat.

Rs. 100 per day, that too for rural areas where inflation is low and everything is cheap compare to cities.

Also, that Rs. 100/- per day is minimum wage that means no one will get below that.

But fact of the matter is that the all the state government have their separate minimum wages which are higher and that can't be lower then Rs. 100/- per day as per MNREGA.

1. Its not limited to harvesting season but its year long phenomenon.

2. The thing is that govt. have started a great scheme where poor can get job near is home in the village and that too with good wage. Also the work govt. allot is also light like planting trees or deepening of pond/water body or making village road etc.

3. As for food poor people get wheat/rice at highly subsidies rates like Rs. 3 per kg only

What do you think? You think law is always followed? What about people who don't have a job. Also, one person's income probably feeds multiple people.

The problem I see in this thread is that Indians seem to be implying that since the minimum wage is 100 rs per day, there can be no one who is living on less than 100 rs per day, or that the number is quite small. But remember that Indian poverty figures themself suggest that 400 million live below Rs 15 a day. And 800 million live below Rs 20 a day (this may have come down to 700 million in 3 years).

Look, as I mentioned 100 rupees gets distributed probably among a lot of people. Then you have cases where this law is probably broken, and then cases of unemployment. The article I posted said that India's workforce in 500m. It adds up in the end.

Another Indian (divya) said that anyone who lives on less than 15 rupees is considered to be in poverty.

Here's an interesting statistic.

Nearly 80 pct of India lives on half dollar a day | Reuters

80% of Indians live on less than 50 cent a day.

Around 26 percent of India's population lives below the poverty line, which is defined as 12 rupees per day, said officials.

From your link itself. it says 26% lives below poverty line @ 12 rupess per day and 80% earns less then 25 Rs a day. Is it not contradictory?
