Shortage of labor in so called "poor" India

.
Another Indian (divya) said that anyone who lives on less than 15 rupees is considered to be in poverty.

Here's an interesting statistic.

Nearly 80 pct of India lives on half dollar a day | Reuters

80% of Indians live on less than 50 cent a day.

Anywhere in the country the minimum wage for the very basic job of daily labourer is near to 100 rupees. (2 dollars) .. and jobs like that are not scarce..and can be found all around

so i dont know where they got the figure from..

.
All the words i made and you have noticed only my reference to adversary. :disagree:

Lets keep flames down!

yes most of us deny anything negative ... not me.. i like to debate on anything even if its against the interests of nation ( not like ajtr though  )
actually my response was not for you but was for thread stater and you post came in between .
and i also dont deny any negative thing and open for a fair discussion
i also agree that there are still many poor ppl in INDIA but its not the way our neighbours like to imagine. and we are definately on better path

Well maybe not everyone has such a job. This 100 rupees is in what time though? Per day? Per week? etc

Look at the thread title. It contains the phrase 'so called "poor" India'. That phrase suggests that India is not that poor (i.e. the indian population).

Ofcourse we are poor .. especially on the books of a european or an american..

For example in UK the minimum wage for an hours work is like 5 pounds..which is around 500 rupees Indian..

Similarly a day's work can get a minimum of 100 rupees for an Indian labourer.

But with 100 rupees the Indian labourer can manage breakfast, lunch and dinner, a pack of cigerette , 10 rupee mobile recharge and abottle of pepsi. :D

Also a point to be noted is that even though govt has fixed a minimum wage , the usual rates are much higher in reality and it increases in towns and cities.

Well mate, statistics don't lie. Unless the numbers are cooked up or are manipulated, which I don't think they are since they are from the government themselves. You might have a point in saying that a labourer earns 100 rupees per day, but most likely there are other factors such as not everyone having such a job or the law being broken.

Government doesnt keep of wage details of each and every citizen unlike in western countries where you u need insurance card and wages are monitored.. Any Indian will agree there is no person , you will get to work anywhere in the country under 100 or around 100.

Yes there are pockets in country, where the people have no jobs and they migrate to cities and other states, th example being , the case of Bihar.

.
This is happening all over India especially in South India, i havn't seen mechanized rice harvesters till a couple of years ago. Now a days they are all over the place from where i came from (AP). Looks like big farmers are going for mechanized harvesting to manual as the labor costs have risen sharply.

even with combined harvestors and all farm aid machinery, people in my state dont cultivate rice , cause the wage is so damn high to make a profit out of it.

Shortage of skilled labours because unfortunately a large swathe of indians are uneducated. Secondly it has to do with the caste mentality of hiring. Many indians are reculant to hire anyone outside their community / social status.

I am sure that Pakistan could, if it wanted to, help India to improve its Educational Institutions and Educated the large swathe of Indians who are uneducated.

The Indian Government and People will most definitely appreciated Pakistan's help in educating the uneducated Indians.

Just like they have ways to calculate poverty rate - anyone living below a certain amount -, they have ways to calculate this as well. Also the article said that only 500 million Indians are part of the workforce.

Actually I forgot something interesting. The labourer makes 100 rupees per day. That labourer probably is feeding a wife and children, maybe parents as well.

There are huge benefits for "being poor" in India. ration @ very minimum rate, free stuffs, writing off loans etc. Everybody wants to be poor... Apart from that, there is dealerships & concessions in the colleges etc.

Mean to say it is not 80% under poverty in India.

In my state, it is people who are earning less than Rs-350,000/-per year is under poverty line for few state govt. schemes.
