Shortage of labor in so called "poor" India

Shortage of skilled labours because unfortunately a large swathe of indians are uneducated. Secondly it has to do with the caste mentality of hiring. Many indians are reculant to hire anyone outside their community / social status.

Have You gone Nuts sir??? No One hires Waged labourers from there own community or cast..... If its done where is the room for The so called Dalits??? You come to say dalits Hiring Dalits for working and Land Lords Hiring Landlords for Work???

Another Indian (divya) said that anyone who lives on less than 15 rupees is considered to be in poverty.

Here's an interesting statistic.

Nearly 80 pct of India lives on half dollar a day | Reuters

80% of Indians live on less than 50 cent a day.

Like i already explained before ,

Assuming an average Indian family is of 4 members, hence their daily living expense of the family is Rs.80(Rs.20*4)
Now for a month it becomes Rs.2400(Rs.80*30)

The article says 80% Indians,we already know that more than 70% of Indian population resides in rural areas.
And Rs.2400 is fine for an average family residing in rural areas.

So,80% of Indians live on less than 50 cents because, their living expenses are limited, attributed to the area they reside in.

We are not saying that India completely wiped out the poverty at the same time it is biased to say that 80% Indians lives in less than ½$ a day:hitwall:. And Bihar is the second fastest growing state in India after Gujarat

to my indian brothers,
we are witnessing radical change in day to day life through our own eyes so we dont need to take crap from others, be it europeans or pakistanis. i have seen a guy who is from a trible area , whole family living in one hut but he studied well in his engg college(not some elite one still...) ,now in taiwan as engineer. just 1 member of family is successful now his whole family benefited. inspiration for his local community now they are sending their children to school.
change is coming, we all know and it is coming swiftly as well, just need to sit tight and work hard for our aspirations. we dont wanna be super power, we just wanna fulfill our dreams thats all. BTW i am from tribal community and i will be the first engineer from my family but i am sure i wont be last one cause my younger sister appearing for IIT. the change transversed through me to my family soon to my community.

Jai hind.

I think i read it in the paper that in the year 2009-10 Bihar grew around 15% growth rate. Around the same for this year as well. Bihar is the fastest growing state in the country I think. The recent poll speak of the change.

We are almost into 2011 and you pull up an article from 2007. and that too before NREGA has begun implementation.

Give me a break. The article is just over 3 years old, and these things don't change quickly.

.
From your link itself. it says 26% lives below poverty line @ 12 rupess per day and 80% earns less then 25 Rs a day. Is it not contradictory?

I don't see the contradiction here. 26% live below Rs 12 a day and 80% live below Rs 20 a day. What's contradictory about that?

.
One request to you just read that article again
That contain data from 2005 and published in 2007

Ok then it's 5 years. It may have come down to 70% or maybe 65% if you're being very optimistic.

Gov get these statistics from people. when a gov surveyor come home to get the income data of a family, people will never tell the real figure regarding their income. For example: in our five members family ration card our monthly income is just Rs 300. And we are paying our house servant Rs 4000 per month.
So as per gov records we are below poverty line. People even bribe gov servants to get a BPL (Below Poverty Line) ration card to get various gov benefits. I know several NRI's having 'BPL' ration cards in my place.

Not sure where you're going with this. What does this mean for the percentage? Does it mean poverty does not exist? It might mean the percentage is lower, but that's about it.

I'd find it hard to believe that anyone living in rural area @ Rs 2400 is not living in abject conditions. This is especially considering that they probably won't have 4 people in the family but more like 5 or 6 or even more.

They can afford the basic day to day necessities.

You should accompany me sometime, while i purchase groceries in my village. The contrast is huge compared to what you pay in the city.

.

If its 5 people then its Rs. 100 per day for the family.
