Shanghai sees breakthrough in high-end marine engineering equipment

Under the environment of international shipping and marine engineering market remaining in the downturn, Shanghai ship and marine engineering equipment industry is actively dealing with the structural capacity surplus situation, and has continuously made major breakthroughs in the design and construction of high-end marine engineering equipment, wherein the share of high-tech ship and marine engineering equipment is constantly rising.
Fu Chunhong, director of Shipbuilding Industry Department of Shanghai Economic and Information Commission, said that through constant adjustment and transformation & upgrading of industrial structure, Shanghai ship and marine engineering equipment industry had successfully turned around the traditional structure dominated by three major ship types and breakthrough in development of large LNG ship, feeder LNG ship, ultra-large container ship, ultra-large liquefied gas ship, drilling platforms, large pipe laying ship, full swing lifting vessel, twelve-cable geophysical vessel and other high-end products was continuously made.
Recently, the reporter was deeply attracted by a full bright yellow underwater "Christmas tree" model during an interview in the R&D Center of Diamond Group. The deep-sea petroleum collecting device is known as "Hornet" in the petroleum exploitation industry, which is the China's first underwater Christmas tree developed by Diamond Group as entrusted by China National Offshore Oil Corporation (hereinafter referred to as "CNOOC") and has been successfully applied to the exploitation of CNOOC South China Sea oil field along with underwater connectors and other equipment. This is by far the only case of China's underwater production system put into practical use, which is of great significant to China's marine economic construction and energy development. Shi Chongxi, the president of Diamond Energy Technology Co., Ltd., told the reporter that the new generation of Christmas tree independently researched and developed by Chinese people broke the previous patterns of international large enterprises monopolizing underwater petroleum exploitation, which could dive to 1500m to collect petroleum and gas. The new Christmas tree will be assembled and put into use in October this year.
"Zhenhua Port machinery is all over the world", the daring Zhenhua Port Machinery Company has actively expanded marine engineering business. In 2014, it smoothly delivered the 300 feet self-elevating drilling platform with proprietary intellectual property rights and successfully entered the field of drilling platform construction. The world's largest full swing lifting vessel of 12,000 tons independently designed and built has entered the crane assembly stage, consolidating the international leading position of Zhenhua Port Machinery Company in the field of large offshore lifting equipment construction.
In January this year, the 'development and application of Marine Petroleum 981' of "ultra-deepwater semi-submersible drilling platform" led by Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. won the "2014 National Special Award for Science and Technology Progress". In May this year, the leading 18000TEU container ship built by Waigaoqiao was successfully delivered, which was the first time that China's shipbuilding enterprises had undertaken the building of ultra-large container ship of such container level, breaking Korea's monopoly in the market and making Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding enter the ranks of world ultra-large container shipbuilding companies.
Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding (Group) Co., Ltd, the only ship assembly enterprise with capacity of building LNG ship in bulk in China, has got an order of building fourteen 170,000m3 LNG ships attributed to the successful delivery of six 140,000m3 LNG ships. In the first half of this year, two new 170,000m3 LNG ships were delivered successfully and the company entered the main international market of LNG shipbuilding. Meanwhile, owing to the successive and successful deliveries of 10,000TEU container ships with proprietary intellectual property rights and the recent bulk orders of 13500TEU container ships placed from China Shipping Group, the proportion of high-end ship in company is over 90 percent.
In May this year, the "Marine Petroleum 301" of China's first 30,000 m3 feeder LNG transport ship made by century-old shipyard Jiangnan Shipyard (Group) Co., Ltd was delivered successfully and will be put into operation shortly. It is the world's largest C type LNG transport ship, marking that Shanghai shipbuilding industry has mastered the LNG shipbuilding technology from large type to feeder and from the film type to C type cargo and the technology has reached the domestic leading level.
As the only shipyard with capacity of building multi-cable geophysical vessels in China, Shanghai Shipyard formally delivered a 12-cable deepwater geophysical vessel independently built last year, which extended the deep-sea exploration to 3,000m and marked the further improvement of offshore oil and gas resources exploration precision.
During the interview, the reporter found that though Shanghai ship and marine engineering equipment industry enjoyed a rapid development with technical capacity in the domestic leading level, the small industrial scale was still the bottleneck of developing Shanghai marine engineering industry. Compared with foreign advanced level in terms of R&D of key supporting equipment, there is a big gap and many core equipments still rely on imports. If Shanghai wants to win in the increasingly fierce domestic and international markets in the future, it must try to find a solution from the overall situation, give full play to the Shanghai's location, talents, financial and other comprehensive advantages and extend to both ends of the chain.
Currently, Shanghai is vigorously developing luxury cruise ship industrial economy chain, carrying out the preliminary planning of project related to luxury cruise ship industry chain and fighting for landing the luxury cruise ship project of China State Shipbuilding Corporation (hereinafter referred to as CSSC) in Shanghai. Shanghai shipbuilding enterprises have timely entered the field of luxury cruise ship design and building and initiated the economic development of luxury cruise ship industry.
Shanghai will vigorously promote the building of marine power R&D platform, coordinate the full development of CSSC low, medium and high speed marine diesel engine industry in Shanghai, advance the construction of CSSC marine power R&D platform and marine power R&D building, developing Shanghai into a marine power center integrating R&D, manufacturing, marketing and service together which has a global influence.
Finally, Shanghai will also vigorously promote the R & D and industrial development of marine engineering key supporting systems and equipment, boost the deep collaboration between CNOOC and Diamond Group, and try hard to land the industrialization project of China's first deep-sea oil and gas field exploitation equipment.
