Shanghai Cooperation Organization Accepts Turkey as Dialogue Partner

BEIJING, June 7 (Xinhua) -- The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) has decided to grant Afghanistan observer status, and accept Turkey as a dialogue partner, Chinese President Hu Jintao said on Thursday.

Hu announced the decision made by the SCO member states at a press conference held after the SCO Beijing summit running from Wednesday to Thursday in Beijing. China currently serves as SCO president.

Member states of the SCO will work to facilitate trade and investment, in a bid to tap economic potential within the bloc, Hu said.

Hu told the media that SCO member states have agreed to enhance cooperation in the sectors of finance,transportation, energy, telecommunications and agriculture.

To advance regional economic development, the organization will forge ahead with its work on the establishment of a special account and development bank, Hu noted.

This year marks the beginning of the second decade of the SCO. Its development in the next decade will weigh heavily on the peace and development of its member states, the region and the world, according to the Chinese president.

He explained that member states have approved a mid-term development strategic plan, and agreed to build the SCO into a harmonious community.

geo strategic location wise Turkey is or would be an ideal candidate for SCO. Recently progress between Chinese Turkey relations have been positive when Erdogan signed a number of deals when he went to China. Potentially Turkey could play an important pivot role as SCO develops there will or maybe a time when it stands openly as a counterweight to Nato. Turkey would be in demand by both sides. Could Turkey balance the two or could Turkey switch sides successfully as China is on the up and America on the wane?

These questions are for the future. But I think India and Turkey have similar issues with joining in SCO because of the American connection

Turkey thinks it is smart and is trying to get best of all the worlds by being in NATO, trying to get in the EU and getting influence in middle east and now the SCO.

they are failing miserably to get into the EU, they have very little influence in ME and russian will destroy itself before letting an enemy join the SCO.

Oh is that the case? Then tell me why did India pull out of IPI pipeline whilst Pakistan has not. America has pressurised both and Indians gave in

When I first mentioned this point many Indians came on and said that the reason that India pulled out was cos of Pakistan. If that was the case why have Indian's signed up for the American sponsored Tapi which also goes through Pakistan:

The above explanation should clarify Indian duplicity in that they are proxy of America but tell the world that Pakistan is America's allies. Exposed Indians
