They were forced to reject it after facing institutional racism and being treated like second class citizens, otherwise they were all for it. Even today a lot of Bangladeshis are pro-Pakistan.Bengalis rejected Pakistani identity
Treat anyone like shit and they'll have no choice but to lash out.
What we did was wrong but in the long-run it reaped benefits overall for Bengalis, I don't mean to be insensitive or support it, but we added an emotional base to their history to invoke nationalism. And the creation of Pakistan prevented them being swallowed by India and eventually creating Bangladesh.
Again I don't support what we did, but in my opinion I view short-term hardships for long-term vast benefits as a positive thing.
