After a period of rejoicing in a spat of good news, here some bad new:

Second indigenous carrier a long way off: Navy Chief

Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Nirmal Kumar Verma, on Thursday said a second indigenous aircraft carrier (IAC) for the Navy “is a long way off.

This [aircraft carrier building] is an investment of very high proportions. We are doing conceptual studies and certainly it is not going to happen in a hurry. It requires huge investment and before that, the Navy has higher priory items to be tackled,” Admiral Verma said, in response to a query from the media, after presenting gallantry awards and honours to naval personnel at an investiture ceremony at the Southern Naval Command here.

“Currently, there are two carriers under construction. The future Navy is based on two carrier battle groups (CBG), one on either coast. And if you have to ensure two CBGs, there has to be a third one. But the stage at which it happens is obviously linked to funding and today, there are greater funding priorities over a third aircraft carrier for the Navy.”

On the new Cabinet Committee on Security-approved rules of engagement (ROE) of sea pirates, he said: “The ROE should be something in the minds of the commanding officer [of warships]. I don't think there is any need to talk of it publicly, as it would benefit the other side. The commanding officer, when he goes to sea today, is very clear in his mind how he should act under different circumstances.” Asked about Defence Minister's A.K. Antony's comment that pirates enjoyed support of other forces, he said: “As a nation, we need to factor in these matters in the worst-case scenario. To that extent, that possibility is always factored [in]. It is true that the pirate ships we have captured up till now had hostages who were forced into running the ship for the pirates…. But there could be a possibility [of pirates being used by inimical forces] and we don't rule it out. Whenever we have had access to pirates and hostages, the investigation is thorough and detailed and there is a lot of information that comes out which is useful in tackling this problem better.”

Combating piracy

Asked about the merit of the Navy deploying a chunk of its resources to combat piracy, the Admiral said: “Today, there is no outright situation of a conflict, as we understand it. The challenge that came to us two years ago —coastal security — continues to be a challenge for us. Similarly, piracy is a new challenge that has come to us. Yes, it does require a fair amount of resources, but the task of the Navy is to ensure that the nation's maritime interests are met, and if it requires me to use the resources, that has to be done.”

.
I feared this all along..3rd CBG will be delayed to ensure the carrier is big enough to have sizable no. of fifth gen. aircrafts..Plus by then there will be enough supporting ships inducted..

. .
Does it mean Vikramaditya + 2 Vikrant class or just Vikramaditya + 1 Vikrant class ?

I think it its the first case.

Naval Chief has said that

so thr will be a 3rd CBG ... but it wont be in a hurry ... so they might be thinking of a Nuclear Powered Carrier with bigger fighter strength ..

i hope it comes online before 2020. ... :)

.
We need four CBG. CBG can destroy anything on their path. :guns:

to effectively ensure that our trade routes remain calm and secure.. we need in future ... 5 CBGs deployed .. that means around 7+ ACs ...

3 to defend Indian shores ... 2 on regular patrol on International waters .... that will make our merchant ships feel secure ... and 2+ stationed for maintenance and will provide .. 100% serviceability to keep 5 CBGs active at any instant of time ...

i say this will happen by 2030+ ... when our nominal GDP will be equal or exceeded US nominal GDP :)

.
I think for countering future thread we need 5 a/c 2 on each side. 2 40000T(Vikramaditya + IAC1) at Arabian sea and 2 bigger size (Q/E around 650000T) in the side of Bay of Bengal coze of bigger thread. But before this we need to increase our sub., FFG & DDG fleet.

Well we will never surpass the US GDP nominally in 2030.It is possible in 2050,We should have 12 CBG's in 2050.

.
Yaar don't be dishearten you should know that India work as per 5 year plans this plan period will expires of 31st March 2012 and after that we will have 12th 5 year plan from 2012-2017 in this period new fund allocations will be made in every field be in civil or military.

And its common to have bigger allocation in each plan because of inflation, growth and threat perception.

Presently Indian Navy is urgently looking for submarines and you will hear the new of Next Aircraft career soon.

We have plenty of time as the indigenous aircraft career which is under construction at CSL will be out bvy 2014 and we can easily start next project by that time.

boy I will be 70+ by 2050 ... :( ... i might have lost interest in ACs ... or may have developed a interest in India Battle Space Ships .. :) yuhuuuu

.
And i think Navy in future needs:

- 5 carrier battle group
- 20 AIP diesel submarines
- 20 SSN
- 10 SSBN
- 20 Project 28 A, ASW corvette
- 20 Boeing P-8 Poseidon

After this we will rule Indian ocean.

YES we should have Battle Space Ships, plasma canons,Grav tanks,Infantry equipped with Anti Gravity thrusters,10th gen fighters etc by 2050.
Though I will be 64 old in 2050 I will try my best to follow this.

.
3 working CBG & another 2 Nuclear carrier Under construction should be our goal till 2020...

I'll be very happy if IAC-II starts by 2020..Our priority should be induction of Submarines and Anti-Submarine planes and ships in Numbers..
AC will be a sitting duck if it doesnot have enough supporting ships with it..
