Over nine days, the exercise will include various training programs, such as formation maneuvering, VBSS (visit, board, search and seizure), helicopter cross-deck landing, joint search and rescue, joint anti-submarine operations, main gun shooting, as well as, professional exchanges and reciprocal visits.

The Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) Navy's participation includes the Type 052D guided missile destroyer Zibo, the Type 054A guided missile destroyers Jingzhou and Linyi Reports from Pakistani media mention the involvement of a conventional attack submarine, a submarine support ship, and a marines corps detachment from the PLA Navy.

Don't think the sub is just coming out of the water considering the number of people up top.

Doesn't seem like the sea state is too bad either.

So my question is, does this sub actually travel on the surface with this pitch?

Any watercraft will need propeller immersion for obvious reasons.
That's why nose high position.
When submerged, these are even keel

This was my reference image, an Ohio class sub.

But I guess it's either the camera angle, or a different design philosophy.

Robust PLAN detachment for mutual exercise with Pakistan, including 1x 052D, 2x 054A, 1x 039 (Song) SSK, submarine support ship and AOR. Surface combatants are provided from the withdrawing 44th anti piracy escort group and presumably one 054A from 45th.

There isn't a 055 joining this exercise? I heard somewhere there're two Chinese 055 joining this exercise and perhaps head to Persian Gulf for some business there.

The closing ceremony of the Sea Guardian-2023, a bilateral naval exercise conducted in Karachi and the North Arabian Sea between the Pakistan Navy and the Chinese Navy was held at the Pakistan Navy Dockyard on Friday, attended by a large number of officials from both the navies.

Six units of Chinese People’s Liberation Army (Navy), including destroyer, frigates, submarine, oil tanker and rescue ship, along with a detachment of the marines participated in the war games, a Pakistan Navy news release said.

The exercise included operational manoeuvres, encompassing major facets of the anti-surface, anti-air, mine warfare and special operations in simulated multi-threat environment, to provide optimum training value, the news release added.

Concurrent to the Chinese ships' visit, Qingdao Naval Base Commander Rear Admiral Liang Yang also visited Pakistan. Rear Admiral Liang also held meetings with senior Pakistan Navy officials and discussed with them the matters of bilateral naval collaboration and regional maritime security.

“Exercise Sea Guardian-2023 proved mutually rewarding to hone professional skills of the two navies and a forum to learn from each other's experiences,” the news release said. “Regular conduct of bilateral naval exercise is a manifestation of mutual resolve to further enhance bilateral cooperation.”
