It is important to approach discussions involving ethnic or regional tensions with care and respect. Conflict or disagreement between groups, whether on political, ethnic, or social grounds, can often be fueled by misunderstandings, historical grievances, or geopolitical interests.

The relationship between Pakistani Pashtuns and Afghan Pashtuns is complex, rooted in shared history, culture, and traditions but also affected by the broader political dynamics between Pakistan and Afghanistan. It is not accurate or constructive to generalize attitudes or label entire groups as traitorous or hostile. Many Pashtuns on both sides of the Durand Line value unity and cultural bonds over division.

If you'd like to explore the topic of Pashtun relations or the role of Pashtuns in Pakistan’s armed forces, I'd be happy to provide historical, political, or cultural context in a neutral and informative manner.

Soldiers’ bodies being transported on animals in Tirah Valley have sparked outrage, and questions are being raised about why helicopters aren’t being used.
Before anyone jumps to conclusions or fuels baseless propaganda, let’s set the record straight.Firstly, Tirah Valley is an active warzone.
This region is a stronghold for terrorists, where every move is monitored. Deploying helicopters in such a volatile environment is extremely risky. A single RPG or anti-aircraft shot could take down a chopper, causing more casualties. Helicopters are not there to flaunt convenience they are deployed to protect and save lives, not to take unnecessary risks.Secondly, geography matters.
If you’re criticizing this practice, it’s clear you’ve never studied the terrain of Tirah or areas like it. Tirah Valley is rugged, mountainous, and unforgiving, with sharp ravines and steep slopes. Helicopters cannot simply land wherever they please. Pick-up points are coordinated with ground troops for safety and practicality. In many areas, transporting bodies on animals is the only viable option because even helicopters can’t access such locations.
To put it bluntly: You save lives, not dead bodies, when you have to choose.During this operation, helicopters were engaged in attacking and eliminating terrorists, protecting the living troops in the field. The mission always prioritizes saving lives over retrieving bodies it’s a painful but necessary reality of war. Even the U.S. military abandoned areas like Nuristan for similar reasons: the terrain and risks made holding or operating in such regions nearly impossible.
To the critics mocking this practice:You belittled our soldiers for years, accusing them of fighting for dollars, VPN bans, and DHA plots. Now, suddenly, you claim to care about their dignity but only because it suits your agenda to discredit the armed forces.
Let me be clear: Enough is enough.Your ignorance of geography, combat realities, and the sacrifices of these men is appalling. Transporting bodies on animals is not a sign of disrespect it’s a necessity dictated by terrain and operational risks. Our soldiers give their lives in the harshest conditions, fighting for a nation that often fails to appreciate them. Their sacrifices demand gratitude and respect, not armchair outrage from those who neither understand nor care.
Pakistan’s defenders know what they’re doing. They deserve honor, not opportunistic criticism.

The deployment of additional Pakistani troops to the Tirah Valley highlights the growing urgency to address escalating insurgent activity in the region. Tirah Valley, located in Khyber District near the Afghanistan-Pakistan border, has long been a strategically significant area due to its rugged terrain and proximity to key border crossings. It has often been used as a stronghold by militant groups, including the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and other insurgent factions.

Key Context:

  1. Increasing Insurgent Activity:
Reports suggest that militant groups, including the TTP, have been regrouping and launching attacks on security forces and civilians in the region. This resurgence is partly attributed to the Taliban's return to power in Afghanistan, which has emboldened cross-border movements of militants despite Pakistan’s efforts to secure its border.
  2. Strategic Importance of Tirah Valley:
Tirah Valley serves as a critical corridor for both insurgents and military operations due to its location and connectivity to various tribal areas. Controlling this area is vital for disrupting militant supply lines and preventing cross-border infiltration.
  3. Challenges for Pakistani Forces:
    • Terrain: The valley's mountainous landscape makes it challenging for large-scale military operations.
    • TTP Resurgence: The TTP has intensified its operations in Pakistan, particularly targeting regions near the Afghan border, raising concerns about a broader insurgency.
    • Local Support: Winning over the local population is essential for long-term peace, as the insurgents often exploit grievances against the state.
  4. Pakistani Counterinsurgency Efforts:
The additional troop deployment indicates a shift toward a more aggressive stance in counterinsurgency. In the past, Pakistan has combined military operations with efforts to negotiate peace and address local grievances, but recent developments suggest a more immediate focus on neutralizing militant threats.

Broader Implications:

This development reflects Pakistan’s growing security concerns, not only in the Tirah Valley but across the border regions. The situation could strain Pakistan’s resources further and might require deeper cooperation with Afghanistan to manage cross-border dynamics effectively. However, challenges persist due to the complex relationship between the two nations and the continued presence of militant sanctuaries in Afghanistan.

November 23, 2024

SOUTH WAZIRISTAN: Curfew has been imposed in Shakai valley of Lower South Waziristan and Ladha tehsil of Upper South Waziristan from Saturday (today) for an indefinite period due to movement of security forces to overcome the growing incidents of militancy.

According to a notification issued from the office of Lower South Waziristan deputy commissioner Nasir Khan on Friday, the decision was taken due to unstable security situation prevailing in the region for the last several days.

He appealed to the people of Shakai for cooperation at this critical time, advising residents to stay indoors.

The security situation in the area has been tense for last several days with reports of targeted killing and terrorist activities in North Waziristan and both the Lower and Upper South Waziristan districts, the notification said.

The security forces are working to restore peace and stability in the area and curfew is imperative to ensure public safety, he said, adding the curfew would be lifted once the security situation improved.

It is worth mentioning here that militants attacked vehicles of Frontier Corps at Sara Pul Road in Shakai tehsil on Thursday.

The security forces retaliated by using mortars and artillery, forcing militants to flee the scene.

Similarly, a notification issued by Upper South Waziristan deputy commissioner Saleem Jan said that Ladha tehsil would be under complete lockdown due to the movement of security forces in the area.

“The curfew will be strictly enforced with a complete shutdown of all traffic, and residents are advised to stay indoors and not venture out of their homes. The security forces are working to ensure public safety, and the cooperation of the residents is greatly appreciated,” the notification said.

Two cops were martyred while another three were injured in the early hours of Tuesday when terrorists attacked a police checkpost in the Gunangar area of Shangla district’s Chakesar Tehsil in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, officials said.

After the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) broke a fragile ceasefire agreement with the government in 2022, the country witnessed a sharp uptick in the number of attacks targeting security forces and other law enforcement agencies, particularly in Balochistan and KP.

According to the interior ministry, in the past 10 months, 948 out of 1,566 terrorism incidents reported occurred in KP, resulting in 583 deaths (out of a total of 924 martyrdoms).

Umar Rehman, spokesperson for the Shangla district police officer (DPO), told Dawn.com that Mohammad Hassan, an assistant sub-inspector from Alpuri, and head constable Nisar Ahmad got martyred in the attack, while three constables were injured.

Rehman added that preliminary information suggested the checkpost was struck with heavy weapons, such as rocket launchers and hand grenades, due to which the walls of the checkpost’s small building collapsed, burying a constable beneath.

The injured police personnel were moved to the district headquarters hospital in Battagram by locals and officials of the Dandai police station, Rehman said.

The incident took place in Chakesar tehsil’s Gunangar, which is a remote area near the Karakoram Highway and the Indus River.
