Saudis give nod to Israeli raid on Iran - Times Online

The head of Mossad, Israel’s overseas intelligence service, has assured Benjamin Netanyahu, its prime minister, that Saudi Arabia would turn a blind eye to Israeli jets flying over the kingdom during any future raid on Iran’s nuclear sites.

Earlier this year Meir Dagan, Mossad’s director since 2002, held secret talks with Saudi officials to discuss the possibility.

The Israeli press has already carried unconfirmed reports that high-ranking officials, including Ehud Olmert, the former prime minister, held meetings with Saudi colleagues. The reports were denied by Saudi officials.

“The Saudis have tacitly agreed to the Israeli air force flying through their airspace on a mission which is supposed to be in the common interests of both Israel and Saudi Arabia,” a diplomatic source said last week.

Although the countries have no formal diplomatic relations, an Israeli defence source confirmed that Mossad maintained “working relations” with the Saudis.

John Bolton, the former US ambassador to the United Nations who recently visited the Gulf, said it was “entirely logical” for the Israelis to use Saudi airspace.

Bolton, who has talked to several Arab leaders, added: “None of them would say anything about it publicly but they would certainly acquiesce in an overflight if the Israelis didn’t trumpet it as a big success.”

Arab states would condemn a raid when they spoke at the UN but would be privately relieved to see the threat of an Iranian bomb removed, he said.

Referring to the Israeli attack on an alleged Syrian nuclear facility in 2007, Bolton added: “To this day, the Israelis haven’t admitted the specifics but there’s one less nuclear facility in Syria . . .”

Recent developments have underscored concerns among moderate Sunni Arab states about the stability of the repressive Shi’ite regime in Tehran and have increased fears that it may emerge as a belligerent nuclear power.

“The Saudis are very concerned about an Iranian nuclear bomb, even more than the Israelis,” said a former head of research in Israeli intelligence.

The Israeli air force has been training for a possible attack on Iran’s nuclear site at Natanz in the centre of the country and other locations for four years.

What else could one expect from Arabs after all we all know to what extent SA can go just to stop Iran from building a nuclear bomb. Something i dont get it what has SaudiArabia got to fear from Iranian nuclear bomb.

I hope members would not fall for such cooked up stories. According to some estimates America alone spent $400 million in Iran regime change. Now that latest effort of such subversive plan has all but failed, you can expect more fabricated stories like that.

One end these stories will promote fear among arab regimes and another end zionist media machine will overwhelm Americans with fabricated stories. Zionist goal is to achieve same effect as Iraq WMD and we all know how fabricated that story was.

I like Iran...And with the current president Ahemadnijan (I spelled it right...right)
who is so media savy it will be very hard for America to start Iran war.
So it will be like Israel going and attacking Iran's nuclear powerplants liket hey did with Iraq when saddam was in power

i don't understand y Saudi Arabia fear from Iran. They know very well Iran will never attack them and even it does, SA will be getting support from all over the world. I never understand why we Muslims always fighting each other, May Allah shower his mercy upon his Muslims, Aameen

Saudis are right.Although if Iran attacks Saudi Conventionally Saudi will recover but you can't afford to have nuclear missiles pointed at holy cities.Iran Nuclear Program should be crushed.

There is an old saying that whenever there is a smoke there is fire. Even if 10% is true in this news. The only word comes into my mind for Saudis is 'BAIGHARATH'.:coffee:

Dude the same holy cities are equally holier for the iranians so why would they point their nuclear missiles towards saudi arabia. And if by 0.0001% chance they do so, Pakistan is still there.

Well last two years Saudi prince are investing money in coastal resorts and other potential tourism projects of Israel. Obviously their is big YES in Saudi Royal family.
And Iranian are wise enough , they never attack Holy Land of Mecca and Madina.

Israel keeps making noises about attacking Iran but it leaves out a lot of details. If Israel were to attack Iranian nuclear facilities they would maybe set back the iranian nuclear program 6 months. The Israeli air force simply isn't big enough to do long term serious damage.

Assuming they did attack, the first thing they would have to do is somehow negate/destroy multiple Iranian air defense facilities. They would also need to hit multiple nuclear sites. Now to further complicate this they would need to do all this simultaneously. If they hit the air defenses first, it gives the Iranians time to disperse the nuclear facilities before they are attacked. If they don't take out the air defenses first they lose quite a few aircraft in the attack.

Then you need to add in all the iranian sub bases, attack craft and cruise missile sites on the coast, because the first thing the iranians would do if they were attacked would be to close the Persian gulf and strait of hormuz to any shipping, cutting off all oil from this area. If the oil gets cut off, the world would turn against Israel.

Now again, you need to do all this simultaneously since an attack on any one of these three targets in advance would give the Iranians time to disperse the nuclear program. So if everything went perfectly and Israel ignored the coastal/navy assets they might set the iranian nuclear program back 6 months.

The US could probably pull off an attack of this size and complexity but it would require a huge effort. It would entail land based aircraft, carrier based aircraft and cruise missiles and a major planning effort and some luck. If the US launched an attack of this size, they might be able to set back the iranian nuclear program 3-5 years, If everything went very well, it would definitely not put a stop to the Iranian nuclearprogram. If anything it would only confirm to the Iranians that a nuclear arsenal is vital to their national defense.

Israel keeps rattling their sabre in regards to attacking iran in order to put pressure on everyone involved to push iran harder and put more sanctions in place. A conventional attack would be very risky and of questionable effectiveness. A nuclear attack by israel would succeed in alienating the entire world, including the US.

I dont think saudi arabia allow israeli plans to cross its air space.

Pakistani pilot are flying UAE F15 , the attack on arabs shall be considered attack on Pakistan.

Iran never try to even touch Saudia or GCC member countries.
