Egypt aims to "heal rift" after Saudi pulls envoy

Reuters – 7 mins ago
CAIRO (Reuters) - The head of Egypt's ruling military council contacted the Saudi government on Saturday over its "surprise decision" to withdraw its envoy to Cairo, the Egyptian state news agency reported.
Field Marshal Mohamed Hussein Tantawi was working to "heal the rift" that had resulted from the decision. "The Field Marshal conducted contacts with the Saudi authorities to work to contain the situation," the state agency MENA said.

HE CONFESSED OF TRAFFICKING A LARGE AMOUNT OF ILLEGAL DRUGS. If Egyptians want to protest over that we don't care.
For the second time the link(AlArabiya) I gave you explains everything.
I read the article..... The guy was going for Umra with his WIFE. Do you think any person with any piece of mind would travel with the country he is having problem with carrying TONS abount of illegal drugs ? It doesn't make sense. If it was any other guy, people won't even care, but the guy is well known political actvist who happened to be in bad terms with Saudi Arabia.

@agenty they are free to speak and say what ever they want but not attacking the embassy and chasing the council in suais in the streets !!
there were plenty of protest in egypt against our government, and no said any thing
but if it reached to this savage level of throwing rocks and setting fire on the building

what was really upsetting is that what is to be called Egyptian "government" did not do any thing to protect the diplomats from these savages

What is the source of this picture ? This is not Egypt, and those are not Egyptians. Who wears jackets in Egypt at this time of the year ?...... Again it was a peaceful protest, check the videos. Your Ambassador was on Egyptian TV last night and he said nothing about the throwing rocks or buring buildings. Stop making stuff up plz. We are not enemies, sir! I hope you realize that.

Well given the fact the he hid the drugs inside a Qur'an I wouldn't be surprised. Anything to divert attention...

Knowing how religious the guy is, it doesn't make sense he would do such thing. It seems all political... Even he really had drugs with him(I highly doubt it), then he deserves all the punishment in the world. It just seems fishy.

Who broke into what? Really, whoever told you that they broke into the embassy is pure BS. The guy was imprisoned for a political reason and there's not a single proof that he had drugs with him. Concerning that picture, we're in summer, man! Nobody wears jackets here in Egypt in such times.
I wasn't really surprised, because sadly lots of Egyptians are imprisoned and are suffering from several punishments in Saudi Arabia.

now 2 milion egyptian may return back and our exports to saudi may stop but it is all worth it for 1 egyptian we take care of brothers and sisters all around the world

This is the oldest trick in the book and Saudis are master of it.

The decision obviously was made by someone to score "brownie points with the King". I highly doubt King Abdullah was even part of the decision making process. He has been a positive influence on the Kingdom and has given a lot of leeway.

سيذكر التاريخ ان السعودية لم تسحب سفيرها من الدانمارك حين سب رسول الله ،، بل سحبته من مصر حينما أُهينت الذات الملكية
no need to translite that

The alleged drugs could be something as simple as captagon pills used widely by Egyptian truck drivers and smuggled widely by Egyptians or some body building supplements not available easily in KSA. Egyptian pilgrims are known to bank on such quick cash opportunities and many time the customs will detain the pilgrim if caught, run the stuff through a sniff test and discard it into a bin along with stern warning and fingerprinting of the offending pilgrim. At times they could be deported too and blacklisted for further entry in the country. However media evidence of drugs should be brought forward..The Saudis reserve the right to lash out a punishment if proven guilty.
