Dhaka, Jul 13 (bdnews24.com)–Saudi Prince Al-Waleed bin Talal is flying down to Dhaka in October to explore possible avenues of investment in Bangladesh, bdnews24.com can confirm.

Bangladesh embassy in Riyadh had contacted with the office of Prince Waleed and they conveyed that he wanted to come in October, said a senior official at the foreign ministry.

The bdnews24.com correspondent saw a letter from the Bangladesh embassy in Riyadh that communicated the conformation to the foreign ministry.

With a net worth estimated by Forbes at US$19.6 billion, making him the 26th richest person in the world, the prince came to Dhaka in 2005 and wanted to invest in the hospitality sector.

Prince Waleed, the chairman of Kingdom Holding Co., expressed desire to buy into one of the two five-star hotels—Pan-Pacific Sonargaon and Dhaka Sheraton.

"The office of the prince has asked the embassy to find out some prospective areas where he can invest," said the official, who refused to be named since he was not authorised to speak to the media on the visit.

The billionaire tycoon would also like to donate to some organisations during his visit, he added.

The member of the Saudi royal family has a net worth of about $20 billion and has stakes in Citigroup, Four Seasons and Fairmont hotel management chains.

He holds a stake in News Corp., the owner of The Wall Street Journal.

Price Waleed also expressed willingness to build one five-star hotel each in Dhaka and Chittagong.

The billionaire tycoon would also like to donate to some organisations during his visit, he added.

They also visited Pakistan and see where they have brought the country to.

Freebie Money is evil.

Today's problems are all because the Wahhabi have hijacked the religion.

There is nothing called a Free Lunch!

Could bring in additional FDI to Bangladesh. Looks like he's wants to have a hold over the upper end hospitality industry.

Hotel business has good potential in Bangladesh. Guess even the Islamic tea party wants a piece of the action

Of course he does :). Bangladesh is potentially a goldmine for the right kind of investors. He can build 5 star hotels in Bangladesh for a fraction of the cost required in UAE or even India.
Result: He is made famous in Bangladesh for investing in it and receives praises for bringing global standards of hospitality to Bangladesh. A few years from now when Bangladesh starts to attract other foreign investment, he will sell his stake in the chain and make a killing.

Cement: Cheaper? NO
Brick: Cheaper? NO

5 Star Service: Cheaper? NO

Well, I don't know if it's cheaper to build 5-star hotels in Bangladesh compared to India and UAE. But the rates at 5-star hotels are certainly a bit pricey compared to India or any nearby Asian country. Even Thailand.

Don't understand what made you take offence. I'm only indicating real estate prices and lower operating costs, (daily laborer and worker wage wise). At this point it's lower than Dubai, Sharjah,Delhi and Mumbai. At one point of time this was applicable to India and China. Now it's applicable to Bangladesh.

A apartment cost way less in Calcutta than Dhaka. Dhaka costing could be only compared to Bombay. Everything is expensive. Even Coxs Bazar or Chittagong more expensive than most indian cities. Delhi is expensive though as well now a days.
