New Delhi, Feb 11:

In the first-ever visit by an Indian Defence Minister to Riyadh from February 13, India and Saudi Arabia are all set to give a boost to their defence ties and understanding with discussion on areas of mutual benefits.

“A.K. Antony will embark on a two-day visit to Riyadh from Monday. This is going to be the first-ever visit by an Indian Defence Minister to Saudi Arabia,” Defence Ministry officials said here.

Mr Antony will be accompanied by Defence Secretary, Mr Shashi Kant Sharma, Vice-Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General S.K. Singh, Deputy Chief of Naval Staff, Vice-Admiral Satish Soni, and Air Vice-Marshal, M.R. Pawar.

In Riyadh, Mr Antony will hold discussions with his counterpart Prince Salman-bin-Abdul Aziz Al-Saud, besides meeting other senior government and political leaders.

Defence cooperation between the two countries includes training exchanges, ship visits and high-level visits by senior officials.

“This visit is expected to enable both sides to engage in discussions on areas where existing cooperation can be expanded for mutual benefits,” they said.

Mr Antony will also be interacting with the representatives of Indian community in Saudi Arabia. Over the years, relations between the two countries have strengthened considerably owing to cooperation in regional affairs and trade.

Saudi Arabia is one of the largest suppliers of oil to India, which is one of the top trading partners and investor there.

Last year in February, the Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, undertook a three-day visit to Saudi Arabia. He was accompanied by the Health Minister, Mr Ghulam Nabi Azad, the Commerce and Industry Minister, Mr Anand Sharma, and the Petroleum Minister, Mr Murli Deora.

We have neglected Saudi Arabia in the past, now its the time for the long lasting partnership.

Saudis irrespective of the huge ummah wind blowing in domestic politics, has shown a progressive face to our diplomatic overtures. We should reply in kind.

We should take up the issue of ill treatment of indians living there with there

That Ummah thing and wahabi funding is their strategy to be a big global power its their political aspirations and their asset when they will dry up their oil.

The end of USA's global dominance (read again I am not saying USA will end or its power) is within 10-15 years they need a strategic partner and market to invest in.

They probably want us to stop buying Iran oil. They are our biggest oil suppliers and Iran is 2nd biggest.

Maybe Saudia and India will have a small scale military excercise in 2012 marks a start of new saudia india military ties.

We should take up the issue of ill treatment of indians living there with there

They don't discriminate they treat a pakistani sunni as they treat a christian from India. And that worrking conditions are bad but if one don't like it don't go there.

If we start dictating uselessly if will be difficult to have partnership.

They have endless options as there are others ready to go there if we don't so why they consider our terms??

Also, they have started to switch over to the Africans as labor source, we are a country with huge population we can't provide jobs to everyone hence our people will go out and earn and send money in India.
