Abdul-Hakim Al-Tamimi, chairman of the General Authority of Civil Aviation, discusses investment opportunities with American companies, on Friday. (SPA)

  • Companies were introduced to updates on the development and investment environment in the Kingdom and investment opportunities in the civil aviation sector
The Saudi General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA), in cooperation with the Saudi-Arabian Business Council, discussed investment opportunities in the Kingdom at a round-table meeting with major American civil aviation companies.

More than 50 representatives of relevant administrations in the authority — including airports, communications and information technology, economic policies and air transport — along with the Saudi Academy of Civil Aviation also took part in the meeting.

The Chairman of GACA, Abdul-Hakim Al-Tamimi, reviewed investment opportunities in the aviation sector and air transport in the Kingdom, and highlighted the increase in air traffic in Saudi Arabia. Infrastructure projects included airport building, construction and development, as well as airport operation and services.

Al-Tamimi said the authority is working to keep up with the objectives of the Saudi Vision 2030, to make the Kingdom an international logistical center that links three continents and receives 30 million pilgrims.

Companies were introduced to updates on the development and investment environment in the Kingdom and investment opportunities in the civil aviation sector in line with the objectives of the Saudi Vision 2030, including the privatization opportunities the authority is working on.

Al-Tamimi also met officials from the aviation companies and examined the cooperation means to operate direct flights from and to the US.

The chairman spoke with the CEO of Cohen Group, William Cohen, and discussed potential opportunities in consultancy services related to civil aviation in the Kingdom.

It should be investment and training so Saudi man power can be prepared to handle these jobs..what the point of creating employment which goes to foreign workers with a tax free wage?? Saudi economic planning has been missing common sense from day one.

This is where the Saudi Arabia Vision 2030 comes into the picture. Plenty of Saudi Arabian engineers (aviation included) left the country temporarily (me included, although I am a chemical engineer) or permanently (for now) due to the Saudi Arabian market not being ideal for them. This is about to be changed hence all the needed, welcome and necessary reforms on numerous fronts in the past 2 years. Something that is only going to be a tip of the iceberg.

Having said that, there are plenty of Saudi Arabian engineers working for Saudi Arabian firms and Saudi Arabian industries.

BTW, a healthy degree of foreigners working inside KSA will never hurt KSA and should be a welcome move. It is no different in the West. Tons of skilled foreigners in Europe and the US for instance. KSA should not close itself off for the first time in recorded history.

The US would not be the US of today if they did not welcome hordes of skilled foreigners. Tons of other countries can say the same.

Saif, i would agree with you. Although i would desist from using the word 'saudi' arabia - arabia does'nt belong to desert thieves employed and patronized by nato - but all the same, i agree arabs must be empowered in their own homeland developing much needed infrastructure. There should be minimal if atall any dependance on foreign human element. Arabia is your homeland, arabs should be soley committed, in-charge & responsible.

I think the Arabs think that money can buy everything. This is a very wrong thought. Reforms are a must for the country's development.
