In any case, I understand Saudi wanting to modernise and be less distanced from the developed world - but I'm not sure this is the best way. Giving women the vote and letting them drive was far better policy.

Saudi Arabia is considering introducing alcohol sales in duty free areas of selected airports, Arabian Business understands.

The plans would see limited sales of alcohol, initially for international transit passengers, in specific airports. It is believed that strict requirements would have to be met, and the sales only available to passengers travelling on designated routes.

No final decision has been made, but a consultation process is underway with key stakeholders, sources said.

The sale or consumption of alcohol is currently banned in the kingdom.

Last month the Wall Street Journal reported that Saudi Arabia is planning to allow a beach resort in its megaproject Neom to serve alcohol.

Scheduled to open as soon as next year, the beach resort on Red Sea’s Sindalah island is expected to offer a premium wine bar, a separate cocktail bar, and a bar for “champagne and desserts,” WSJ reported, citing documents dated January.

Who said I cant ggo without a day? You assumed wrong.

But when I pay for first class I expect service on par with other international providers including other middle eastern arab airlines like etihad and qatar. Its not just about alcohol, its about an image like the other guy said above, you become wary of traveling to such places that are super restricted.
About pilots and driving, I pay them to be sober and chauffeur me safely to where I need to get.
For example Cathay has its own problems having shitty first class and hospital camp like feeling in the HKG airport making travelers got through airport in hospital camps. But they left international travelers alone and I was able to conduct business in their international lounge although stepping out in the city was just too arduous so I did not go out.

Long story short, if you want business they have to be careful of their clientele.



This exactly, these restrictions make one feel wary and uncomfortable, why would I or anyone want to feel uncomfortable, I'd just skip that country as this time.
I respect their rules and they should respect my choices.

That alcohol, especially in excessive quantity, is bad, is rather obvious and well known. What is the attitude of Islamic countries about Tobacco? Statistically, Nicotine (Tobacco) causes far greater number of diseases and deaths than Alcohol.
