Saudi Arabia keen on investing $10b in 15 Bangladesh projects

BD is in a good position as it would be able to export good quality home electronics and appliances to Africa at competitive prices to what China offers.

It also should be able to provide stiff competition to India in the pharma sector as it starts up its own API Park this year.

This should be an even better decade for gdp growth in BD and if the current inflationary pressures are resolved within 12-18 months then sustained 8% growth is realistic.

We are not racist but think Arabs have a primitive culture and mindset.
That is the reason none of them are moving towards developed status - oil/gas wealth in gulf does not count.

Did you know that 3 centuries ago BD was the core of the Bengal sub-division of the Mughal empire and it generated 50% of the wealth with just 25% of the population?
BD had better ship technology than the British at the time and started proto-industrialisation with its garments industry back then.

Without oil/gas those GCC countries would look like Yemen. I will keep watching how they continue their high living standard after oil/gas loses it's current value.

I think you have a good knowledge of how a business is run. In the case of businesses inside SA, they seldom go out of their A/C-fitted Board Room. In their stead, their white European managers actually manage a factory/ plant.

So, how it is possible for them to invest in other countries where they do not have either the willpower or the knowledge to manage anything. They are unwilling to get out of their Egg Shell. And they know nothing about management if some are not Lebanese, Egyptian, or even Syrian.

I do not really expect these SA lazy guys to invest in BD or Pakistan.

I find it strange they are talking about setting up aviation industry in BD. Out of all the things, aviation industry, that too the Saudis.

Just watch how the tables will be turned 2-3 decades down the line.

The idea that Gulf Arabs are “superior” to BD’shis would be treated as pure comedy.

BD is unique as being the only country in the sub-continent that has a culture and cohesion that may allow it to become a developed and industrialised country.

Been hearing this bullcrap for 10 years.
Saudis will only invest in non-muslim countries. The same with Emiratis, who will invest even in occupied Kashmir. But investing in muslim countries??? No way.

maybe Investments are drived by the possibility of profit and a hospitable Enviroment for investment is in place. I am not aware of the situation in bangledesh but i dont see The GCC having a problem investing in Morroco Egypt Turkey Europe the US and Africa. And i dont think they will throw their money to help a country because theyre muslim which most likely wont do anything in return

Non muslim countries like China Japan and western europeans see opportunities in BD but appearantly GCC arabs are not interested. But they are interested in investing in a kashmir that is ridden with insurgency.

Maybe we have been all wrong all aong. lMaybe Europeans and east asians are the real muslims of the world

If we are going to exclude the gulf completely then we have Morroco and Egypt. I think the UAE is already renowned enough to be mentioned.
Did you also know Egypt is the birthplace of civilization since the begining of mankind? Does it matter today? No? Suprising.

That is too far back dude and does not matter in terms of the current industrial revolution phase that started around 300 years ago.

Current Egyptians are nothing like the great civilisation that was ancient Egypt, which was the most advanced in the world of its time.

BD(Bengal) was the only county outside Europe that went through any industrialisation before being defeated by the help of other backstabbers in S Asia against the British.

You have had independence for decades and still nothing can be seen in terms of development.

Why is this so? Your culture and mindset no less.

BD only became independent in 1971 and is now the fastest growing large developing economy in the world and higher per capita than both India and Pakistan, despite the fact they had a 24 year head start in independence.

Not all bengalis think like that. Arabs are as varied as it gets. Everyone with some knowledge know that.

For my part i actually admire beduine culture. Like i do for many other indiginous culture. What people think is primitive is actually a quite sophisticated way of survival in this harsh world. When cities collapse it will be these people who survive and thrive.

Many cityfolks believe they are modern and advanced. Working their *** off in a office chair 24/7 to buy buch of things that they dont really need, or can afford, in order to impress people they really dont like.

Nobody expects them to throw money. We have Chinese, Korean and Japanese investors investing in our country. If it doesn't make any business sense for them to invest in BD, why do they make this kind of bullshit announcements every few months ?

Nothing against ordinary arabs but i believe Muslims of the subcontinent have diametrically different geopolitical interest than Arabs. In fact Arab interests ATM is causing great danger for muslims in South Asia.

GCC is feeding the snakes that goes on to opress and murder muslims.

True.

But usually two or three are far bigger and stronger than rest.

Even EU is led by Germany and France. They set the strategic direction and wield the stick.

Currently, Turkey and Iran are on a different terrain when it comes to intellectual heft. Indonesia will join them soon.

But rest are too far behind.

I would accept the leadership of Turkey/Indonesia/Iran.

Turkey provides the link to the west.

Iran provides the independent streak and fearlessness.

Indonesia provides the link to the east.

Bangladesh and Pakistan can occupy the tier two leadership positions.
I would respectfully disagree. We are a nation of 170m. We need not follow anyone and must strike our path.

What i would like to see is an alliance between muslim democracies. I would dearly like an alignment with indonesia, malaysia, pakistan and turkey.

Iran also needs to be brought in.

The world of the 2030s won’t care what the West says as they will just be one power centre, although combined still the most powerful.

These countries have accumlated investments over the years china and japan have dropped a total of aproximately 6 billion dollars while the saudis are dropping a 10 billion bomb at once so far i do not know why the delay but they might be rethinking themselves dropping such a huge money might not bring profit while inadequate infrastructure, limited financing instruments, bureaucratic delays, lax enforcement of labor laws, and corruption continue to hinder foreign investment. Government efforts to improve the business environment in recent years show promise but implementation has yet to materialize. Slow adoption of alternative dispute resolution mechanisms and sluggish judicial processes impede the enforcement of contracts and the resolution of business disputes. And this is on the words of the largest investor in Bangladesh, The United states. Blaming others for your own failures is something i do not support, I see a bright future for Bangladesh wether the saudis invest or not

Well let me tell you what we were doing after our independence. Fighting the entirety of the westren world for palestnians.
From what i hear the british have destroyed the industrlization bangldesh has accomplished interms of ship building 3 centuries ago. Does this impact bangldesh now? Is bangldesh a pioneer in ship building today?
The development in Egypt the last 8 years is as bright as the sun, Iam suprised you didnt do a dime of research before speaking

So the delay of investing 10 billion dollars is now a devilish intent against bangldesh?

I dont know where you get this because its the complete opposite. People here open buissneses nobody gives a dime for your mercedes if you dont have the money to support it. People work in small buissneses and make relations until they collect money to open their own and expand. The goverment supports this approach so national banks offer loans with low intrest rates with 5 to 10 years time for payment depending on the bank itself but most are 10 years. My dad has done this after working in his own pharmacy and now is a founder of a medical company and is looking to open branches of his pharmacy all over Alexandria. Thats atleast Egypt iam not aware of the gulf but the GCC seems to be doing extraordinary in this regard

No. Bangladesh will do fine with or without Saudi investment, by the will of Al Malik.

There are other long term geopolitical aspects. Its about geography, sociopolitical and geoeconomial concerns where Arab interests are indirectly harming muslims of subcontinent.

I live in Europe so i am speaking from my own reference.
