Saudi Arabia keen on investing $10b in 15 Bangladesh projects

Why would BD want anything to do with such primitive people as Arabs anyway.:cheesy:

The less contact that BD has with them the better. After BD no longer needs their manpower quotas(2030?) then best just having nothing to do with them apart from Hajj pilgrimage and oil/gas imports.

Countries that BD must absolutely engage with are the West, Turkey(defence industrial goods), East Asia and India.

And Africa, Africa will develop further in the next 10-20 years. We can do a lot of business with them. We should not have any problem with them, unlike many other nations we are not racists.

Even for oil imports we may not have to depend on the gulfies, there are other exporters such as Russia and Iran. In 10 years time these two countries may not have any oil sanctions on them. We can even import from the US.

BD does receive a lot of remittances from saudi.... but lets also be honest.... our people work hard for it.... SA is not handing out charity here.

Saudi investment is just pure nonsense.... they talk a lot but there is no actual investment. Calling bullshit exactly that we should do more often. Every 3 months we get these nonsense headlines.... its a form of psywar to maintain media presence to establish soft power, an image, a narrative to the world.

Most countries does it.... US projects democracy and military power, europe modernity and liberalism, china projects development and political maturity..... in case of SA they can only project monetary strength through bogus claims of investment.

As i have said before.... we need a sticky thread on this so we can all see the 3 month prepetual propaganda news cycle in action.

They want to maintain a sort of 'leadership' in the Islamic world. I say give them the middle finger, we are the third largest sunni Muslim nation on earth, we need no leadership from anybody. Turks and Iranians have similar desire but they are at least not bullshitters.

I have been on this forum around 13 years ( holy crap !!!) , been reading "Saudis keen to invest $5 to $10 billion " for as long as I have been on this forum.

There is Indian DNA in Saudi gene pool or is it the other way around?

in fact saudi promised to inviest 100bn$ in india and after 20 years it was came out that they invested only 1bn$ since then. they are doing same with ind bd pak .

It's about maintaining a 'leader' type of image for them, they want to show they are the boss. There is another way they do it. Whenever they need something from countries like Pak-BD, they send their sarkari ulama to give a lecture or two explaining how great brothers Bdeshis and Pakis are to the arabs. I remember them sending their sarkari alim to BD, I think at that time they were trying to get BD troops for their Yemen operation. Government understood it and gave the sarkari alim a grand welcome and few ministers accompanied him to the Padma bridge construction area and showed him around.

Not Indians? They are no better Habibis than the Arabs.

Indians are baniya, businessmen and that's very good. We failed to use them for business to our benefit. When you form a good transactional relationship with business minded people, both parties can benefit greatly. The Chinese are also same. It's our failure we couldn't use Indians to our benefit.

Arabs have always tried to lead the Muslim world but have always been rejected.

Turks, Persians and Syrians are the natural leaders.

Under their leadership Islamic world expanded and flourished.

We should never see Arabs as leaders.

That was the past. In the modern times, I don't think any specific Muslim nation needs to be a leader. What we need is independent Muslim countries forming a NATO type of alliance where leadership of the block should be rotated by votes, similar to NATO.

Yep!

But NATO is led by USA.

Rotating leadership is for show only.

. .
Yeah, but it doesn't need to be exactly like nato.

True.

But usually two or three are far bigger and stronger than rest.

Even EU is led by Germany and France. They set the strategic direction and wield the stick.

Currently, Turkey and Iran are on a different terrain when it comes to intellectual heft. Indonesia will join them soon.

But rest are too far behind.

I would accept the leadership of Turkey/Indonesia/Iran.

Turkey provides the link to the west.

Iran provides the independent streak and fearlessness.

Indonesia provides the link to the east.

Bangladesh and Pakistan can occupy the tier two leadership positions.

In 10 years time, BD will be able to ignore any Western sanctions on Iran/Russia anyway as the power balance tilts further away from them, and BD itself is a far stronger country and may export as much to China/India as the whole West combined.

We need to keep our options open in terms of energy imports and not buying from Gulfies will put BD in a weak position when negotiating contracts.

Yes Africa and others are sensible trade partners but the ones I listed are the most important.

I think you have a good knowledge of how a business is run. In the case of businesses inside SA, they seldom go out of their A/C-fitted Board Room. In their stead, their white European managers actually manage a factory/ plant.

So, how it is possible for them to invest in other countries where they do not have either the willpower or the knowledge to manage anything. They are unwilling to get out of their Egg Shell. And they know nothing about management if some are not Lebanese, Egyptian, or even Syrian.

I do not really expect these SA lazy guys to invest in BD or Pakistan.

The west and the east and south-east asian countries will be our trading partners but Africa is underestimated to a great degree. It has immense potential, in the next 10-20 years we should be able to export a lot to Africa if we can build up industries other than garments only.

BD is in a good position as it would be able to export good quality home electronics and appliances to Africa at competitive prices to what China offers.

It also should be able to provide stiff competition to India in the pharma sector as it starts up its own API Park this year.

This should be an even better decade for gdp growth in BD and if the current inflationary pressures are resolved within 12-18 months then sustained 8% growth is realistic.

We are not racist but think Arabs have a primitive culture and mindset.
That is the reason none of them are moving towards developed status - oil/gas wealth in gulf does not count.

Did you know that 3 centuries ago BD was the core of the Bengal sub-division of the Mughal empire and it generated 50% of the wealth with just 25% of the population?
BD had better ship technology than the British at the time and started proto-industrialisation with its garments industry back then.

We are not racists but Arabs are racists towards us. Even then we are a mature nation, if they have business to offer for both parties to benefit from, then we are open for business. We don't want much to do with Arabs, salam walaikum salam, some lip service to the brotherhood as they give us the lip service, hajj/umrah visa and trade, that's all.
