Samtel India breaks Japanese monopoly in avionics products

India has not been able to make its own jet engine for its fighter planes. Not even close to one. The work culture in India is one of the worst(add to that corruption). The quality levels were abysmal during the secure market days. Now atleast they are improving. But still there is no consumerism. People buy what companies manufacture. I have millions of examples of each othe above. To satisfy you I may mention HAL, DRDO, ISRO, BHEL etc., which continually face a lot of stagnation in terms of innovation. THey really sukkk!!
Indian Army has never been allowed to take a free run in the country in the 60+years to win a war with strength. In this terms I would consider the political stance as soft. I dont blame the armed forces because they never had a good chance. It is not a surprise that today youth even theose itching for the guns dont go for army because they are never going to see action. May be because of 60+years of lethargy the armed forces have become 'unmighty'. I won't be sensitive of this fact. It has to do partly with a wish to follow Mahatma's path or at least to appear like that.

That is about India in general. I still take India for a developing country as Indian leaders do. There is a lot of scum in the public sector that is keeping progress at bay. But that does not stop me from appreciating how well the private sector has performed. If despite the sh*tty work culture we have, they are this good, imagine what can happen if everyone worked well.

Now about the Tatas...
Yes the Tatas were patronised by the Indian government for a long time atleast partly because the extreme lengths they went for in improving Indian Science and Technology(read IISC, TIFR, Air India(read legends about how Air India flights were used to mark time by people in Mumbai) etc) and philanthropy. Apart from this it is not that just the Tatas got this luxury. Many other Indian companies were protected and tolerated to the extent that their low quality was overlooked. Nor is it only India, world over countries have protected their prized Cos which they thought were important, reliable and efficient. It is just that Tatas are making a huge impact now world over that you recognize them. The fact that Tata group survived after markets opened up only shows their competency.
The question is 'DOes India regret grooming Tata group?' NO!!

Infact Tata's Titan's Fast Track has an impressive collection of them.

Yes India sucks in a lot of ways... lots and lots.
But even the most skeptical pessimist like me wears a smile when someone talks about Tata-Jaguar-LandROver or Tata-Corus or TCS because they are things that matter and there are more things like this. So there must be really something about it.
I just wish you change your idea about India and think objectively. Talk to me if you want real expertise on India. PM me. You seemed to talk sense in your initial posts. But I see you are getting polarised towards the hate club.

Samtel is a core company with good focus . Now it is opening up to becom a Product company. It even manufactures its own assembly lines through its machines subgroup.

Rock solid foundation.

Correct. Chinese products (non military) has a reputation for being cheap "crap" globally. Hopefully your military products are better than your toys and electronics. Indian products on the other hand have the reputation of never being delivered on time. I hope that the same doesn't apply to its military. :rofl:

TATA trucks and buses have got nothing to do with Daewoo...they have been manufacturing trucks and buses with their logo for decades and are serving in at least three continents...the Daewoo acquisition was a recent one.
TATA tea has been a tea brand for 40 years now...by the recent acquisition of tetley...TATA tea has become the second larget tea manufacturing company after the Lever brothers corp.

btw TCS is the among the top 10 most successful It firms in the world...and is the largest IT company in Asia...

and it was funny when you rounded almost a hundred different products including their steel manufacturing unit which happens to be the world's sixth largest steel manufacturing company...
and the CRL(computer research laboratory) that is behind the development of the world's 4th fastest super computer
and the TATA chemicals which has presence in four different continents...

The demand for cheap rather than quality is a global trend. If it was the other way around then the Rolls Royce would be a world's best seller? Given that the SA govt is under pressure from our unions to stem the Chinese imports and save our textile and other industries, I forsee a time when China would only remain SA's top trade partner in terms of major exports from our country.

Tata has benefited from a government policy that gives them a virtual monopoly in India since India's independence. It was not until India's opening-up policy where foreign manufacturers were allowed limited access. Almost instantly likes of Suzuki, Yamaha, Honda, Toyota, Mitsubishi grabbed market share. Fearing for discriminatory tariffs (like those they faced in US), Japanese (and later Korean) car markers were coerced into settling up domestic assembly plants.

The reason for Tata Motors weak sales have always been their poor quality, unrealiability, difficult to service/repair/find parts, and their decades old designs. Tata Motors to date have yet to master the large-capacity engines required to power large semis. Note, "semis" and other super-large trucks are in a different class from your everyday half-ton trucks. This is where Daewoo Trucks provides the manufacturing expertise, but the knowledge is still within the Korean engineers and the factory is still in Korea.

And the most recent major addition was Jaguar Land-Rover, which as late has proven that the Europeans also enjoy taking advantage of others. JLR is bleeding over 500+ million each fiscal year, and it is getting worse. Any attempts at massive layoffs are being heavily dealt with by trade unions AND individual governments. So basically, the Europeans are bleeding Indians dry (again). Be careful of WHOM you do business with....

CRL never developed any super-computer, much less the 4th fastest. CRL purchased an HP-designed super-computer, that uses Intel processors and Chinese components.

Decades ago, I too gave them too much benefit-of-the-doubt. It wasn't until I witnessed with my own eyes, and my fascination about their unique culture and 'business-style' increased dramatically. From then I have become a huge expert on India, Indian industry and capabilities (or lack of), and their psychological mentality.

Take this one small example. Tata and Reliance Industries are the two largest conglomerates in India, with Tata being the larger of the too. Yet what Tata can boast about is limited to: oil refining, junk autos ("their" heavy-trucks is Korea's Daewoo), tea (bought British Tetley), 'body-shopper' TCS, miscellaneous stuff, and a digitial wristwatch. And I seriously doubt they even have the domestic capability to manufacture a wristwatch, much less design one. If India cannot even domestically produce something as simple as a cheap digital wristwatch you see selling at Walmart, then how do you expect anything more advance from them?

First thing is stop talking about China, you are not Chinese. You are a Pakistani in China. So compare India with Pakistan and talk about its big industries (never heard even one). Do not follow the philosophy of assuming someone else property as yours "You are rich but my chacha (uncle) is richer" You do not represent China. You are born Pakistani that is fact period. Everyone knows about your Chacha (China) talk about your Papa (Pakistan), or you do it deliberately since there is nothing good about your Papa. You are trying to find enjoyment with something that is not yours.

this was the case with all of your companies till you opened up wasn't it?
China is a communist nation is it not?I think you would know better than me why communist countries tend to safe guard domestic companies against foreign capitalist firms...you opened up in the 80s after your domestic industry achieved a degree of self-reliance.
and getting the foreign companies to set up plants in your own country also develops jobs for the masses and instigates local development.

it is the world's fourth largest truck manufacturer and the second-largest bus manufacturer.

Those korean engineers are employees of Tata.the Factory can be anywhere...Tata would decide the cost of the equipment, where to sell it and to whom...by your definition...all of the playstations/ipods/printers/mobiles are owned by China!
as far as the expertise of size is concerned...consider this...the world's biggest truck is oerated by some of the world's poorest latin american countries...like Peru and Chile just because they are chiefly mining countries not because they hold a certain grudge towards the usage of the not-so-respectable mid-sized rigids...

JLR was already making huge losses before it was acquired by Tata...
the original plan was to just acquire Land rover and not Jaguar...they were sold as JLR by ford so they were acquired...while Jaguar ws to provide expertise in the high-end car market...LR was for expertise in the defense sector
Their losses would not be reversed overnight.they have planned to reduce volume and introduce new models...and the whole thing takes time.

TCS and Infosys are not famous for their call centers but for their business solutions.You need to read a lot about their products.

do you know about computer architecture?all these products involved are off-the-shelf....the most important thing to get your own working super-comp is the architecture.
btw I am curious about the Chinese components...not that I don't believe you...last I heard the Chinese were also struggling with their microprocessor for their supercomputers...I am not taunting you...it's just that it's been a while since I read about the Chinese development in this field...fill me in.

does CETC manufacture EFIS and has sold its products to any customers yet??

If one by loud mouth Shchinese ,that china has been making this EFIS since the 90s,now is there any fucntional chinese EFIS out there...as the initial article clearly states that sonly is the sole suppiler of EFLS till recently.

FBC-1 is the 90s old lady,nowadays J-10,J-11,Y-8,K-8,etc.
