Sailor travelling on Pakistani Navy vessel jumps ship off Darwin, reaches mainland

@Rashid Mahmood - What do you think happened ?

Sailor's have had a history of jumping ship in countries like the UK, Australia and the US.
This does happen that one or two sailors try to become AWOL in another country and hide till things cool down.

I remember in 1995, we recovered a sailor who became AWOL in Cape Town.

These poor guys try to look for a better future and find it easier this way, but most of them eventually come back after they find that it isn't easy to settle in another country illegally.

.
Whether it was intentional or not, he is very lucky to be alive. The saltwater crocodiles of Australia are brutal killers, that actively hunt humans once they reach around 15ft in length. It's not uncommon to see Salties that are 20ft in length.

their navy person practice this type of exercises extensively.. because in war whenever they hear Indian Navy is comming , all crew of PN ships jump out of the ship and escape and hide behind bushes:rofl:

Your post is not funny and kind of ironic considering that the navy has fought with bravery and won it's fair share of battles, and taken it's fair share of losses.

........... or extremely effing desperate.

There is a true story of a French Prisoner in a Penal Settlement in Martinique, W.I. who escapes and then swims through shark-infested waters, gets recaptured but finally makes it on his 3rd attempt. It became the story of a film.
Sheer desperation can make people do anything.
I'm sure a sailor earning a good pay with post retirement benefits would be tht desperate.

@Windjammer your say ? Why your naval personals who did nothing wrong since inception, now deserted your country and navy too ? :pleasantry:

@WebMaster. Would you ban me if I reply to this troll? N the other above him?

Man does not live by "bread" alone. Men also crave for freedom and other quality of life.
Which is why we have the phenomenon of "Boat People".

Read @Rashid Mahmood's post above to understand why PN sailors have jumped ship.

And read the story of "Papillon" ; the French guy who escapes from a French Penal settlement on an island. Desperation can drive a man to anything.

.
Pot say kettle black. That's a long pending reply to Windy troll in INS Sindhurakshak tragedy.

Sorry to disappoint you but an AWOL sailor vs indian subs n ships blowing up = bad comparison ... Now if discipline is something you want to talk about .. I Don't think you wan to go there do you ? I have no issue talking about the wife swapping n sodomising junior thing etx.. But webmaster will ban me.. So I suggest you delete off-topic "revenge" posts..LMAO.. And carry on trolling in Bangladesh section.

Now you are getting smarter nah.............finally; though it took some time, nah
But the Thread is about: A Paksitani Sailor who jumped off a Paksitani Naval Ship off Australia.
Why are you bringing India into it? Compulsive pathological trolling?

you know? its only possible through extensive training normally undertaken by those who undergo the SEAL kind of training.
swimming in even calm sea is not that easy if someone has to swim for few miles. the exercises dont take place by the shores. and near ports where these ships are docked .. have security in place.

now I wonder why would a sailor skulk in the bushes after achieving such marvel.
next bit of story?

his Marathon all the way to Perth or Sydney to meet up with some Pakistanis in case he is not eaten by the crocs or bitten by the creepy crawlies on the way.
Not sure how effective that training will be in a place infested with Sea wasps and crocs.

As they say "The 100% safe place to swim in Darwin(Top End) is in a swimming pool"

After 2:50

maybe not being eaten and bitten "made him throw his backpack and skulk behind the bushes" as being claimed in the story.

@Capt.Popeye what do you think prevented him from becoming reptilian food?

I wonder whenever he is found how much of him will be intact.
btw poor choice of a place to ditch the navy.

These poor guys try to look for a better future and find it easier this way, but most of them eventually come back after they find that it isn't easy to settle in another country illegally.
they have to live it to believe it
in his case.. his lifespan will depend upon some really natural nasty things out there.. even plantation there can kill you
let alone the critters and reptiles

Well nothing can prevent him from becoming reptilian food................................unless the reptiles he encounters have already eaten their fill and have no mood for a human fed on chemical and adulterated provisions !
OR
He is another "Crocodile Dundee" !!! :D

Choice of location...........probably reflects on poor knowledge. He is not so well-read on Natural History publications like NatGeo etc.
At the very least he could have referred to the ASD (Admiralty Sailing Directions)/Pilots for the area. That might have dissuaded him upto more Southern Latitudes at least.

OR
He was at the the end of his tether or plain desperate.
Hint: the contents of the back-pack recovered will give clarity towards the possible motive(s).

All said and done..........he could be Pakistan's first aquatic medal hope at the Olympics.......

I think if they find him unharmed would be a great ending to this story.

. .
Skulking, not sulking.

skulk
skʌlk/
verb
gerund or present participle: skulking
  1. keep out of sight, typically with a sinister or cowardly motive.
Prolly wants to seek asylum or something.

no I think that's what your people do

isnt that what you've done?

doesnt matter...if he did jump ship to avoid duties, you can bet he'll have a nice court marial waiting for him

the charges would be extremely serious - since he's representing uniformed personnel of Pakistan

best to wait for the facts rather than some people get overly enthusiastic and excited too quickly

Well if he did go AWOL --no excuses and no sympathy

A lot of people in the American military community are FUMING over Army Sgt. B. Bergdahl who went AWOL in A-stan and abandoned his unit. In that case, people actually died trying to look for him.

I am not sure that this sailor did go AWOL.
I just explained what could have happened.

Yes sir - the context of my post was "IF" and "only IF"

My view is that people should wait for the facts to actually come out. But some people here got excited and suddenly became newcasters and anal-ysts
