The two Coast Guard aircraft are managed by the Ministry of Defence (Royal Air Force). The maintenance is done by Jet Support. The pilots of the Royal Navy and the Royal Air Force and Observers of the various ministries. These aircraft of type Dornier 228-212, eg PH-CGN and PH-CGC, equipped with navigation, communication, search, photo and video equipment.
The tasks of the aircraft are, inter alia:
- Support for SAR operations
- Detection and identification of contaminants (oil / chemicals) and the source of the contamination.
- Supervision of the ships performance.
- Sea traffic research, where data from ships (name, type of vessel, whether or nationality, not loaded, etc.) are recorded and processed, so you get an overview of the traffic on the North Sea.
