SEVEROMORSK, October 15. /TASS/. The aircraft carrier task force of Russia’s Northern Fleet has started its voyage to the North-East Atlantic and the Mediterranean Sea, the fleet’s press service said on Saturday.

"The group consists of the aircraft-carrying heavy cruiser Admiral Kuznetsov, the Pyotr Velikiy battlecruiser, large anti-submarine ships Severomorsk and Vice-Admiral Kulakov and support vessels," the statement said.

The goal of the voyage is "to ensure naval presence in the important areas of the World Ocean," it said. "Special focus will be made on safeguarding security of maritime traffic and other types of maritime economic activity of Russia and also on responding to the new kinds of modern threats such as piracy and international terrorism."

The previous joint voyage to the North-East Atlantic and the Mediterranean Sea of the Admiral Kuznetsov and Pyotr Velikiy was completed in the first half of 2014. The current long voyage is the eighth one for the Admiral Kuznetsov aircraft carrier.

SEVEROMORSK. Oct 15 (Interfax) - The Admiral Kuznetsov, a Russian Northern Fleet heavy aircraft carrier, is expected to depart on Saturday for a long-distance cruise to the Mediterranean under escort of other warships, a knowledgeable source told Interfax.

"A naval aircraft carrying group led by the Admiral Kuznetsov cruiser is leaving for a long-distance cruise," he said.

The Admiral Kuznetsov is supposed to join the Russian Navy's permanent operational unit in the Mediterranean. Interfax had reported earlier that the only Russian aircraft carrier's long-distance cruise would last four to five months.

@500 just several months ago you were claiming that Mig-29Ks were nowhere near operational. How's that workin' out for you?

Operational means at least one wing (12 jets) trained for CAS, AI, SEAD, DEAD etc. All they have is 4 MiG-29 who just learned how to land on carrier. They will drop couple bombs in middle of nowhere and claim they destroyed ISIS.

You just don't know when to stop

First you were barking at me to show you Mig-29ks landing with arrestor cables. I showed you.

Then you were barking to show Mig-29ks taking off From a ramp, I showed you.

Then you started barking to show a Mig-29k taking off with heavy payloads. I showed you.

Now you are claiming that the pilots only know how to land on a carrier. Do you train with the pilots? How the hell do you know what they were trained on? Perhaps you should STFU and stop trying to be an expert in something you clearly know nothing about.

As for "only 4 Mig-29s. Aircraft are kept below deck. You don't see KA-52s in the photo but they are present on the Kuznetsov. You also don't need to deploy an entire wing for it to be operational.

Again u use fool language.

This is was my claim made on July 10 2016:

"there are little if at all trained crews for MiG-29K"

You started attacking me, calling me troll and other names. And here is the fact: the first landing of serial MiG-29K on AC was only in 9 Aug 2016 - one month after my words:

http://bmpd.livejournal.com/2061287.html

So I was totally right. They practiced several crews (not even half wing) to land on AC and rushed to send it to Syria. Whats the purpose? - Zero, just PR.

Oh that's all you claimed? I think I already mentioned all the nonsense you were claiming and many have seen it themselves.

Mig-29ks have been doing land based carrier training long before they were ever assigned to the Kuznetsov.

They were practicing cable landings and ski jumps in Crimea, not to mention the Mig-29K pilots are likely former SU-33 or Mig-29 pilots.

Then you made a claim that the pilots can only takeoff and land. Like a fool you can believe something you can not prove yourself. Tell everyone how you came to the conclusion that Mig-29k pilots have not trained for CAS, SEAD, ect.

I'm not going to hold my breath.

I'm not going to hold my breath.
I made two claims:

1) Because of lack of catapult they cant carry any serious payload (and fuel).
2) Su-33 is ancient junk and they barely have any trained crews for MiG-29K.

Totally useless thing just for show.

The Indians and Russian are just stupid then, they bought an aircraft that can't carry fuel or munitions. lets also assume that the Mig-29K can carry limited fuel on takeoff then why are there Mig-29ks with external fuel tanks?

Let me pretend I'm you and assume it's all for show and they really do have a limited capacity. Even if that were true they can be refueled in mid air.

Addressing your second claim for no trained crews. You have zero proof to back that up. Again Mig-29K pilots were photographed training in Crimea. You have zero knowledge as to the level of training of the pilots or experience. For all you know those Mig-29K pilots could have 4000 hours flying SU-33s and other Mig-29s.

At the end of the day you are trash talking and trolling.

.
Indians brought it to dominate the sea, not ground attack. In sea u need just one 500 kg missile to sink or heavily damage a ship. Their carrier can take 3 squadrons of Mig-29 and ASW helicopters.

Now they sent 4 Mig-29 for ground attack. Whats the purpose?

For ground attack u need heavy load. Here quite typical load of Rafale, over 5000 kg total:

The Norwegian military has released pictures taken by surveillance aircraft of a fleet of Russian warships sailing in international waters off the coast of Norway and reported to be heading to Syria.

Photos of the vessels, which include the aircraft carrier Admiral Kuznetsov and the Pyotr Velikiy battle cruiser, were taken near Andoya island, in northern Norway on Monday.

A spokesman for the Norwegian military intelligence service said the country's armed forces frequently releases such footage, while newspaper VG quoted General Morten Haga Lunde, head of the service, as saying the eight ships involved "will probably play a role in the deciding battle for Aleppo".

Russia's TASS state news agency said in July, citing a source, that the Admiral Kuznetsov would take part in the Russian operation in Syria from October to January. The warship would carry 15 Su-33 and MIG-29K jet fighters and over 10 Ka-52K, Ka-27 and Ка-31 helicopters, it said.

Russia, which has backed Syrian President Bashar al-Assad with an air campaign against the rebels fighting him, including in Aleppo, told the Norwegian armed forces the warships were on their way to the Mediterranean Sea, Norwegian media reported.

Russia has a naval base in Arkhangelsk, east of Norway's far north.
