What's new

Russian media says china is developing single-engine J20 and stealth JF17

Stealth aircraft does not mean 5th gen aircraft. Some of the projects may just involve making the planes somewhat LO

If it is a completely new design, it shouldn't be JF-17 anymore. Just like F-15SE, it is going to have negligible radar cross-section and that is what one may expect from a 4th gen fighter at most. "Stealth" is not the first objective of his coming into being but its good it is reaching the new levels of maturity. Thumbs up to the engineers who developed it and are still pushing the limits further. :china: :pakistan:

There are two terms.. one is stealthy and other is stealth.

By the way.. what would you call F-15SE? Stealthy or Stealth?

Wiki says:

A demonstration version of the F-15SE was first displayed by Boeing on 17 March 2009. The F-15SE will use fifth generation fighter technologies to reduce its radar cross-section (RCS). Distinguishing features of this version are the Conformal Weapons Bays (CWB) that replace the Conformal Fuel Tanks (CFT) to hold weapons internally and the twin vertical tails canted outward 15 degrees to reduce radar cross section. Weapons storage takes the place of most of each CWB fuel capacity. This variant will also have radar absorbing material where needed. The Silent Eagle is aimed at current F-15 users such as Israel, Saudi Arabia, Japan, and South Korea, among others.[3][4][5]

Everything which F-15SE went through is implementable on JF-17 and that will make JF-17 considerably stealth or stealthy. If its cross-section is reduced to <0.2 m2, I'm sure it is going to cause a lot pain for incoming aircrafts to spot it or fire at first. So the main advantage of having stronger radars by the enemy aircrafts will be neutralized.

the term stelth has become so commonly used that it has lost its meaning....we should coin a diiferent term for aircraft that posess actual stealth

Applies to India as well......Indian Media always using the term "stealth" to describe their plane

i personally dont think this report is creditable, j-20 is a massive plane it is virtually impossible to power that plane with one engine````so the only possibility is to 'shrink' it, but then the laws of aerodynamics will not allow the 'shrinked' verison of j-20 to even have the ability to 'stay' in the sky!!

so my prediction is if CAC was really developing a single engine stealth fighter it is going to be the upgrade of either j-10 or fc-1(jf-17)`! they are more feasible in terms of size. when the new engine and avionics are ready few aerodynamics needed CAC can easily make a stealthy single engine fighter``

Here are Huitong's claims regarding SAC and CAC:

1. There are at least four major SAC projects: J-16, J-17, J-18, and J-19. The J-16 is a 4.5 generation strike fighter while J-17, J-18, and J-19 are stealthy 5th/4.75th generation projects.

2. CAC is building multiple 5th generation fighters (he calls them the J-2X series), one of which is a single engine J-20.

3. CAC is also building a frontal stealth version of the JF-17.

From a separate post in a CJDBY forum, peishens claims that the J-16, one of SAC's stealth fighters, and a heavy stealth UCAV (possibly Combat Eagle) will be revealed to the public this year.

Single engine J-20; no from side...
J-20 must be a stealth bomber...enough of the defensive chit chat we need to get offensive & strike WITHIN enemy strongholds.

One of the reason china's new weapon are being designed faster and better I think, is the advances in computing/super computing technologies.

The drawings for JH-7 used to take up 2 rooms, now a single computer is all that's required.
